Jeremy Corbyn - webchat to discuss self-identification of sex

Popchyk · 28/01/2018 11:32

On the Andrew Marr Show today, Jeremy Corbyn indicated that the Labour Party is in favour of a policy of people being able to self-identify as the opposite sex.

Could we get Jeremy Corbyn on Mumsnet to do a webchat in order to discuss the implications around this?

If he is unavailable, could we have another senior Labour figure?

Thank you

Thanks Helen.

We'll add Jeremy Corbyn to the list of people with fewer balls than therealposieparker.

Could those of you with Labour MPs ask them if Labour would do this and if not, why not?

Tobee Leanne Wood's comment was re-tweeted on the Womans Place twitter account earlier today.

Nice one, Jeremy, thanks a million.

Also, genuine thanks to MNHQ for giving it your best shot.

No echo chamber for him on here. That's why he cba.

Yecartmannew · 14/03/2018 07:14

Yes please.

KateMumsnet · 16/03/2018 14:31

Hello everyone - not equivalent we know, but we were wondering whether a webchat with Karen Ingala Smith would be useful and interesting?

terfing · 16/03/2018 16:23

Yes! That would definitely interest me! Smile

Popchyk · 16/03/2018 16:24

Yes, for me it would be. Thank you.

It would be good if that could be the start of a little mini-series of webchats with different people about self-ID.

David TC Davies (MP for Monmouth) would be another good one.

Thanks Popchyk that's a good idea...

we'll have a think to see if that would be workable.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 16/03/2018 20:42

Both of those would be fantastic! Thanks Kate and Fliss.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/03/2018 00:05

Karen IS would be fab. But I really think a mini-series would also be great. Invite lots of people. Sandi Toksvig?

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/03/2018 09:54

@FlissMumsnet

If you go for a mini series, can you invite Lucy Masoud?

HebeMumsnet · 26/03/2018 10:55

Morning, everyone. Thanks for all your thoughts on this and sorry for the delay in coming back to you. We've had a look through the responses and we're going to drop Karen Ingala Smith a line in the first instance and see if we can get her in. We'll update when there's any news.

Popchyk · 27/03/2018 16:04

Thank you, Hebe.

Thanks for all your work on this MNHQ Flowers Karen IS would be a fabulous guest. I think we should invite Stephanie Davies Arai too. Given that we're a parenting website.

Thinking about the mini-series idea, would it be possible to invite @WPUK to do a sort of virtual 'residency'? It might work well as a series of guest posts with accompanying discussions. I've been a bit scathing about guest posts in the past but that's because the authors never stick around for the discussion. I can't imagine anyone connected with WPUK being that rude.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 10/04/2018 07:35

I agree - web chat / virtual seminars would be great but really for getting the unconverted here to listen as well as supporters or it becomes an echo chamber with little external impact

The new CEO of Womens Aid Katie Ghose should be invited first, due to the importance of their current review on Gender inclusion Policies. She's an ex Trustee of Stonewall and it's ominous one of her first actions as CEO was to organise a review of Gender Inclusion Policy for refuges. She needs to hear our safeguarding concerns first hand.
