Jeremy Corbyn - webchat to discuss self-identification of sex

Popchyk · 28/01/2018 11:32

On the Andrew Marr Show today, Jeremy Corbyn indicated that the Labour Party is in favour of a policy of people being able to self-identify as the opposite sex.

Could we get Jeremy Corbyn on Mumsnet to do a webchat in order to discuss the implications around this?

If he is unavailable, could we have another senior Labour figure?

Thank you

Would also like to see this...

creaturefeatures · 29/01/2018 18:06

Also adding my name to the list of people who would very much like this

JustHooking · 29/01/2018 18:08

They always answer the biscuit question whilst ignoring real issues
And some idiot always admits to having a fucking crush on them Angry

whitehandledkitchenknife · 29/01/2018 18:09

Calm, rational questions about the consequences of self-ID.

Yes please. I'd like this.

TheNerevarine · 29/01/2018 18:12

How narrow are we talking when we say single-issue? Because there's some linked issues that don't exactly come under the 'implications of self-ID' umbrella (like the attempts to silence debate by labelling it transphobia and why no questions seem to be being asked about how young people, particularly vulnerable young women and girls, are being pushed into transitioning). Would those topics be out?

dorade · 29/01/2018 19:18

Ooh, yes please MN.

I think a single issue webchat on how aspects of trans ideology clashes with women's rights, both politically (AWS, women's officers, gender balance) and generally (sports, prisons, refuges etc).

It may be prudent to have a thread in feminism to collate and refine questions and nominate posters in advance to make most of the time.

newtlover · 29/01/2018 19:27

yes, get him on
the labour party are VERY close to losing my vote over this- I want to hear what they have to say

LangCleg · 29/01/2018 19:27

Yes, please.

(If only because he might have to actually inform himself about the impact on women before wandering about virtue signalling.)

AnachronisticCorpse · 29/01/2018 19:31

Excellent.

KalaLaka · 29/01/2018 19:32

Definitely interested!

Namelesswonder · 29/01/2018 19:35

Another yes please. Would really like to know where the Labour Party are heading with this issue.

Cismyfatarse1 · 29/01/2018 19:36

Yes please. Would definitely want to hear it. And the views of Nicola Sturgeon who is heading down the same path in Scotland.

NotALabourMemberImAfraidLads · 29/01/2018 19:36

Great idea. I watched him on the Andrew Marr Show talking about this subject. Marr was quoting Linda Bellos on this issue and asking for JC's response and Corbyn just kept saying 'I'll be happy to meet with Linda to discuss this issue' rather than actually responding to her points live on air. Well, that's great for Linda but other female voters want to know his responses too!

MorrisZapp · 29/01/2018 19:39

Make. It. Happen.

KnittedBobbleHat · 29/01/2018 19:39

Another vote for this to happen

littleducks · 29/01/2018 19:43

Yes as a single issue webchat

Waddlelikeapenguin · 29/01/2018 19:45

Yes please.
Also seconding request for Nicola Sturgeon.

hipsterfun · 29/01/2018 19:55

An excellent idea but I don’t think he’ll be up for it, tbh which will tell us everything we need to know

just5morepeas · 29/01/2018 20:03

Would love to see this happen.

TheXXFiles · 29/01/2018 20:31

Yes please, and yes to it being a single-issue web chat as part of their consultation!

Justabunchofcunts · 29/01/2018 20:32

Would love to see this happen. I think Nerevarine's points are all part of the same issue. I don't see how you can cover it without covering these: How narrow are we talking when we say single-issue? Because there's some linked issues that don't exactly come under the 'implications of self-ID' umbrella (like the attempts to silence debate by labelling it transphobia and why no questions seem to be being asked about how young people, particularly vulnerable young women and girls, are being pushed into transitioning).

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 29/01/2018 20:55

Yes, and definitely as a single issue web chat so as not to go winding around in evasive circles.

SlowlyShrinking · 29/01/2018 20:58

Yes definitely. I’d like to know what he has to say about this. It’s an important issue for me. I believe he has an obligation to women to explain the rationale behind this seeming change of policy regarding AWS.

SlowlyShrinking · 29/01/2018 20:59

Apparent, not seeming

mercurymaze · 29/01/2018 20:59

yes it's really important, today transwomen are women is all over my facebook
