Weird behaviour with "back" button in browser - anyone else?

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 21:45

Over the last few days I've noticed if I'm browsing Active, I'm On or a talk topic and click onto a thread from there, when I press back to return to the list of threads afterwards, it often seems to skip that page and go straight to whatever thread I was reading before that, which is very odd. It doesn't happen every time, but enough for me to notice. I have thought maybe I've clicked back twice by mistake and gone forward again, but it's like the interim page is just deleted from my history as though I never visited it at all.

Is anyone else getting this? It's really strange and disorientating.

I'm on Chrome on Windows 10 on a desktop.

Is there any update on this? It's still bad on chrome on my android phone, and has started being bad again on my chromebook.

Lollyb86 · 22/02/2018 07:46

Happens everytime for me too. If I click the back button on any thread it goes back to the last thread I viewed and not active threads.
I'm on Samsung android default browser

it's got worse for me too in the past couple of days, at the same time I've noticed the page "jumping" again, which is something to do with the top advertising bar I think (from when it was happening to loads of us before), so not only does the back button take me to something I've already read, I'm also not getting to the thread I think I've clicked on.

the back button is taking me back further than it used to, and sometimes it takes me back several times to the same thread, even though I've been on different ones in the meantime.

Graphista · 22/02/2018 14:47

Come on to say worse for me too now - plus sometimes not getting a back button option at all.

It's now the 22/2/18 first reported early Jan I believe? Why is it taking so long to sort out?

Parrothead · 22/02/2018 17:47

OMG this is happening CONSTANTLY. Sometimes it even brings me back to whatever non-MN page I was looking at before.

Parrothead · 22/02/2018 17:49

Hit post too soon. I was going to say this is RIDICULOUS. I am beyond unimpressed with MN’s crack tech team, I have to say.

dontsufferfools · 22/02/2018 17:53

Bloody hell!. I thought it was my phone. Its been driving me insane. Especially when it thows me back into a previous webpage altogether.

Feel better my new phone isnt as shit as I was suspecting.

PositiveAttitude · 22/02/2018 23:22

Can I suggest that everyone who has added to this thread report your own posts in the morning and moan at MNHQ? I don't know why this has been let to drag on for 7 weeks with nothing being done about it. I think this thread is now being ignored, but if we all bombard them with report messages maybe something will be done to correct this.

Graphista · 23/02/2018 00:05

Good idea

TraceyTech · 23/02/2018 09:06

Hi there,

So sorry this is causing so much frustration. We are looking at it and trying to pin it down.

The video is really helpful thank you.

If you could also provide the version number of the browsers you are using.

Tracey

Pinkywoo · 23/02/2018 16:05

I'm on an android phone using 7.1.1, and this is driving me crazy!

Graphista · 23/02/2018 16:45

Seeing we seem to be on all different phones/browsers/versions that seems an odd request.

But...

Safari 9.3.4 (I hate doing updates)

TieDyedBumhole · 23/02/2018 17:14

Safari iOS 11.2.5 but about to update to 11.2.6

IHaveACuntingPlan · 23/02/2018 17:27

This is my version of Chrome

I thought it was my phone playing silly buggers!

I'm on the mobile site on android phone using chrome.

It happens 50% of the time.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 24/02/2018 14:05

It is happening to so many of us so that request doesn't really make any sense. I'm on the most up to date version of chrome on android.

This is really starting to be quite irritating, I don't even really bother to try for very long. The first time it happens I leave mumsnet and go elsewhere.
How has this not been fixed yet?!

Itlante · 25/02/2018 06:54

Android version: 8.1.0
Chrome version: 64.0.3282.137

It's been a little better this morning, but has still happened a few times.

CaptainHammer · 25/02/2018 16:06

What NachoCheese said!

PositiveAttitude · 26/02/2018 06:15

@TraceyTech Are you asking for our browser information as a stalling tactic because you have done nothing about sorting this out since it was brought to your notice on the 4th JANUARY ?

COME ON MAKE IT YOUR PRIORITY TODAY TO GET THIS SORTED. If I was so laid back about an issue at my work I would be in serious trouble!!

SophieLMumsnet · 27/02/2018 10:03

So sorry, PositiveAttitude,

We've nudged tech about this and we hope they'll be on the case as soon as possible.

SophieLMumsnet · 27/02/2018 11:47

This is just to say that tech are looking into this - you haven't been forgotten! They're doing what they can. Flowers

SophieLMumsnet · 27/02/2018 12:16

Tech are a bit stumped, and they need to see what's going on in person.

If anybody who is having this problem lives in London and is willing to assist, please get in touch at [email protected] and we will arrange to visit to try and diagnose the problem as it happens on your browser.

SilverHairedCat · 27/02/2018 12:43

Is no-one at HQ able to replicate the problem in browsing the website on their own / MNHQ issued phone?

SophieLMumsnet · 27/02/2018 13:54

Hi, SilverHairedCat - I don't think they've been able to replicate it, no.
