Weird behaviour with "back" button in browser - anyone else?

Over the last few days I've noticed if I'm browsing Active, I'm On or a talk topic and click onto a thread from there, when I press back to return to the list of threads afterwards, it often seems to skip that page and go straight to whatever thread I was reading before that, which is very odd. It doesn't happen every time, but enough for me to notice. I have thought maybe I've clicked back twice by mistake and gone forward again, but it's like the interim page is just deleted from my history as though I never visited it at all.

Is anyone else getting this? It's really strange and disorientating.

I'm on Chrome on Windows 10 on a desktop.

How random! Will try for a video.

anotherchangetomyname · 27/02/2018 14:17

I thought I was the only one! Also on the mobile site for me too (Android phone).

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 27/02/2018 15:42

I've been seeing it on the latest iOS safari (11.2.6 and previously on 11.2.5) - both desktop site. See it on wifi and on 4G if that makes a difference.

Also been seeing it on my Windows laptop using Chrome whatever the latest version of 64bit is.

Its been not so bad the last couple of days though.

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 27/02/2018 15:43

I am London based so if I see it starting again I'll email you as happy to come and show you.

Ooh a home visit for a MNer Grin how posh!

Sorry I am too far away. I have it happen occasionally on my desktop computer on Chrome v 64.0.3282.186 (but it updates automatically so I could have been on an earlier version before).

I also use Samsung's default browser on my phone, v 6.2.01.12

Does anyone from tech team fancy a trip to the Isle of Wight? I would say the sunny, warm, Isle of Wight but its effing freezing here at the moment!! Grin

ToffeeNosed · 28/02/2018 06:30

Yes it's been doing this on my tablet.

TraceyTech · 28/02/2018 15:17

Could you try using the site in incognito mode and see if you have the same problem?

In chrome go to File->New incognito Window
in safari go to File->New private Window

Itlante · 28/02/2018 19:28

I just tried incognito and it seemed worse. I went to active conversations then a thread, then back went to the first incognito window (instead of active) This happened a few times

EduCated · 28/02/2018 19:32

Oh good, I thought it was just my phone being an arse!

Am on an iPhone, Safari, Mobile page.

WineCheeseSleep · 01/03/2018 11:03

Just a thought, in my settings I chose to have 1000 messages on a thread (ie all of them) on one page rather than having multiple pages. Do others on this thread have this set up? As it seems to be linked to slow loading of pages I wonder if this might cause the issue? I have changed it just now and it hasn't happened so far...

SilverHairedCat · 01/03/2018 13:27

I don't have that set up, so not sure it's just a single factor.

Itlante · 01/03/2018 16:20

When I went to incognito it didn't have the 1000 messages to a page, I even chose small threads to see what happened and it was still happening.

BertieBotts · 02/03/2018 06:50

I have 100 messages on a page, but that affects threads, not active/I'm on which are the pages it seems to skip.

Angry this is putting off using the site it’s so annoying. Still.

Catzpyjamas · 04/03/2018 23:50

I have been having this issue for weeks now on Silk Browser on Kindle Fire. Very annoying.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 05/03/2018 08:09

And still it continues!

RemainOptimistic · 05/03/2018 08:11

Me too. Android, Samsung Internet app.

A way round it is to long press on the topic you want to read and tap Open in new window. Then you can use the back button to go back to the original window when you're done.

JenMumsnet · 05/03/2018 09:52

Hi all,

Just to reassure you that Tech is still looking into it.

MrMeSeeks · 05/03/2018 09:54

Mine also takes me to the last site i was looking at.
On mobile, and only happens on this site.

ShowOfHands · 08/03/2018 08:18

Mine stopped doing this for a while but it's doing it again in earnest.

Sidge · 09/03/2018 13:31

It stopped for a while for me, but now it's back to doing it again.

Also the screen jumps around when it loads Active Convos - I assume from an ad but I have an ad blocker installed. I keep clicking on the wrong thread!!

DawnMumsnet · 09/03/2018 15:24

So sorry this is still an issue for many of you.

Am off to see if our Tech team are any further along. Thanks for your patience.

AlishaMary · 10/03/2018 13:09

It’s doing it constantly today Angry

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2018 13:13

I've not reported this before but it's still doing it for me too. Chrome on Android.
