Weird behaviour with "back" button in browser - anyone else?

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 21:45

Over the last few days I've noticed if I'm browsing Active, I'm On or a talk topic and click onto a thread from there, when I press back to return to the list of threads afterwards, it often seems to skip that page and go straight to whatever thread I was reading before that, which is very odd. It doesn't happen every time, but enough for me to notice. I have thought maybe I've clicked back twice by mistake and gone forward again, but it's like the interim page is just deleted from my history as though I never visited it at all.

Is anyone else getting this? It's really strange and disorientating.

I'm on Chrome on Windows 10 on a desktop.

Happening for me too. Although it only happens if I go past the first page of a new thread.

Maybe Tech is only going to the first page and then pressing back - so not seeing the issue.

StoatofDisarray · 16/02/2018 07:32

Same here!

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 16/02/2018 07:38

Oh wow, I’ve been blaming my phone for this. Happening to me too, exactly as described.

KitKatCHA · 16/02/2018 07:46

Me too, I've stopped using the site as much as it's so annoying!

Android phone, chrome browser.

Itlante · 16/02/2018 08:18

I agree, it's not sporadic at all on my phone (Android). It is really quite frustrating.

TraceyTech · 16/02/2018 09:35

Hi there,

Just want to make sure I understand the issue. Is this happening for just Chrome? The first couple pages the back button is fine, but after that it starts to skip?

SilverHairedCat · 16/02/2018 09:40

The first few pages thing isn't what I'm experiencing. Most recent example:

Open Chrome afresh, opens to my Google homepage.
Open MN most recent threads page.
Open and read a short thread (6 posts).
Press back button.
Takes me back to Google.
Open most recent threads pages again.
Open and read a longer thread (30 posts).
Press back button.
Takes me back to Google.

I’m getting it using safari on the latest iOS. Desktop version of MN. So no not just chrome.

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 16/02/2018 09:46

Oh and I have mine set to show 1000 posts. So it throws me off a thread completely when I hit the back button.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 16/02/2018 09:53

I'm on chrome on Android. I have it set to 1000 posts. Sometimes it does it the 1st time I press back and sometimes it'll be fine for ages and then I'll press back but instead of taking me back to active it'll take me back to the page before, which is usually Google homepage.

CaptainHammer · 16/02/2018 10:14

Mines happening on safari, latest iOS both on my iPhone and iPad. It hasn’t been doing it every time I’ve tried to go back like it was but still happening occasionally.

TraceyTech · 16/02/2018 10:37

ok so sorry this must be really annoying. We will trying and figure out why this is happening .

AllButterShortbread · 16/02/2018 10:40

Safari on iPhone. Latest ios. When I press back nothing happens, as if the page I’m on is the first page I’ve visited that session. And sometime it does go back but to the thread I was on previously rather than the active convos or topic list.

Itlante · 16/02/2018 10:54

I have a Nexus phone using Chrome. It did originally happen with my Chromebook (also using chrome) but this doesn't seem to have happened for a while.

I have a permanent tab open on chrome with Mumsnet, and it's set to 1000 posts per page. I have tried letting the page fully load, but tbh it loads pretty fast anyway and also happens on short threads.

As with PP, trying MN just now on my phone goes like this:

Active conversations
choose thread - Rinsing
back - active conv
choose thread: WIBU re: Ginger hair
back - should be active conv but it goes to this thread for some reason!

The active conv link on my drop down list is still wrong. It says:
Feel awful|Mumsnet Discussion
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/active-conversations

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/02/2018 16:55

I have this too, mobile site on chrome. I suspect the person who suggested it was because of the pages taking so long to load may be on to something

mrswishywashy1 · 17/02/2018 08:23

Still doing it 😢

daisychicken · 17/02/2018 09:46

Still doing it here too - am using chrome on android phone

AWaitressInACocktailBar · 17/02/2018 15:45

Well it’s nice to know after 6+ weeks MNHQ is finally starting to gather information about what’s happening...! I’m sure an advertiser who was having a technical problem would have to wait just as long to get some attention. That was sarcastic in case it wasn’t obvious.

I don’t use chrome, just safari, usually from my iPhone or iPad. It happens on both. Not every single time but certainly a lot more often than “sporadically.”

BertieBotts · 18/02/2018 01:02

I've just had it happen with search results.

Put in paramaters for search.
Looked at list of results.
Clicked on one, read the thread, clicked back
Went back to list
Clicked on another, read thread, clicked back
Went back to search page - huh?
Clicked forward - went to second thread result
Clicked back - went to advanced search page.
Had to click the actual search button again to get it to run the search again.

V weird. And I don't know that it could have been to do with it being taking too long to load because it had worked the previous time! Confused

It’s happening for me every time I look at a thread in AIBU.

yawning801 · 21/02/2018 18:30

How have I missed this thread? It is the bane of my life! (May be exaggerating a bit there!) I thought it was my laptop!

yawning801 · 21/02/2018 18:31

And I'm using Chrome on a laptop (HP stream).

SilverHairedCat · 21/02/2018 18:33

It's actually worse now than ever.

It's taking me back multiple pages at a time, to a thread I read up to 5 threads ago. Chrome for Android.

Saralyn · 21/02/2018 18:39

I'm on the default android browser on a Samsung phone, happens a lot there too.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 21/02/2018 21:39

Occasionally when it does it it'll kind of flash onto the page I'm going back to before going back again to the page before that. I think. It's too quick.
