Weird behaviour with "back" button in browser - anyone else?

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 21:45

Over the last few days I've noticed if I'm browsing Active, I'm On or a talk topic and click onto a thread from there, when I press back to return to the list of threads afterwards, it often seems to skip that page and go straight to whatever thread I was reading before that, which is very odd. It doesn't happen every time, but enough for me to notice. I have thought maybe I've clicked back twice by mistake and gone forward again, but it's like the interim page is just deleted from my history as though I never visited it at all.

Is anyone else getting this? It's really strange and disorientating.

I'm on Chrome on Windows 10 on a desktop.

Shouldn't be difficult to replicate if they use the mobile site on a phone for 10 minutes.
It happens more on my phone and tablet than PC and it happens every time I open the site and try to use it.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 10/02/2018 01:52

Still happening here sadly. I agree it shouldn't be difficult to replicate, it happens every 4 or 5 times i try and go back to active.

ToothTrauma · 10/02/2018 01:56

This happens to me all the time! I thought it was just me!

This is driving me absolutely crazy today. It seemed to be better for a couple of weeks as well.

Itlante · 12/02/2018 08:11

It has been really bad for the last few days on my phone - Android. Last night was awful. On the chromebook I haven't noticed it for a while.

ThursdayNextIsMyHero · 12/02/2018 13:23

It's been really bad today. It's been going on for over a month now and it's really frustrating. Usually I go to Active Conversations and click on a thread I want to read. While that is loading I normally see another thread I want to read in a minute. Before this issue I'd just press the back button to return to the Active Conversations page I had seen before. For the last month I haven't been able to do that, instead I've had to use the Active button on the bar at the bottom of the screen, which takes me to the updated Active list, which usually means the thread titles I was interested in before are no longer there. On the occasions when I forget and presd the back button, it takes me to the last pre-MN page - hugely frustrating when I've been reading multiple MN threads in the meantime. Please sort this out.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 12/02/2018 16:45

Can we have an update please?

TeddyIsaHe · 13/02/2018 14:47

Still happening here too

AllButterShortbread · 13/02/2018 14:48

Really getting on my wick now.

BexleyRae · 13/02/2018 14:49

Yup, still happening for me, really annoying now

AlwaysPondering · 13/02/2018 15:00

I thought it was my phone!

Graphista · 13/02/2018 22:42

Happening again AND it's logging me out now too which is a real pain.

AWaitressInACocktailBar · 14/02/2018 04:13

Thursday yes, that’s exactly it! With all due respect, MNHQ Tech, it seems like this shouldn’t be THAT hard to fix. Someone has already replicated it for you and if you go on MN yourself for a short while from a phone you will see it pretty quickly.

This is getting a bit ridiculous.

Fredathetortoise · 14/02/2018 06:28

Happening to me too. I think a PP had it right when they said pages take so long to load that it hasn't finished when you hit Back, so it thinks Active was the previous page.

For years the mobile site has been incredibly slow to load in comparison with other sites. Eg 1 second to load FB homepage, 5 seconds to load Active. I know that's hardly a long time to load in the grand scheme of things, first world problems, blah blah, but when it's a page with mostly text vs a page with a lot of images, on the same phone, same internet connection, within moments of each other, what the heck is MN loading that trashes so long?

Fredathetortoise · 14/02/2018 06:28

*takes so long

AllButterShortbread · 14/02/2018 06:54

It isn’t at all slow on my phone so I’d be surprised if that was the reason.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 14/02/2018 06:58

I thought my phone was being dodgy until I saw this thread. It has happened this morning, using mobile site.

user789653241 · 14/02/2018 10:03

Chrome has been acting weird on my pc for last couple days too. When I try to type in comment, it keeps taking me back to google chrome home page. Only happens with MN.

AWaitressInACocktailBar · 15/02/2018 23:37

We've just had a chat with Tech for an update. It's not been forgotten - they're still looking into it, but it's happening so sporadically it's been really hard for them to replicate the problem and work out what's causing it.

Sporadically? Is this a joke? It happens very regularly to me and clearly many others, and it was reported many weeks ago — well over a month. What exactly does “looking into it” even mean?

PositiveAttitude · 16/02/2018 06:33

I agree, AWaitressInACocktailBar. This is really frustrating, especially as it was highlighted to MNHQ on the 4th January and it is still happening.
Come on Tech!!
I have tried waiting for pages to load fully before hitting back button, but it still seems to be happening to me.

AllButterShortbread · 16/02/2018 06:49

Not sporadic here either. It happens every time I use mn.

SilverHairedCat · 16/02/2018 06:50

Still happening. Has been every day for the last month. Only on MN. Chrome for Android.

feesh · 16/02/2018 06:50

This issue is driving me insane. Come on HQ, sort it out! It happens on my iPhone, my iPad and my Mac

SilverHairedCat · 16/02/2018 06:51

Oh, and it's not too do with thr page still loading - I'm deliberately giving it time to load, yet it still happens at least 50% of the time I press the back button.
