Weird behaviour with "back" button in browser - anyone else?

Over the last few days I've noticed if I'm browsing Active, I'm On or a talk topic and click onto a thread from there, when I press back to return to the list of threads afterwards, it often seems to skip that page and go straight to whatever thread I was reading before that, which is very odd. It doesn't happen every time, but enough for me to notice. I have thought maybe I've clicked back twice by mistake and gone forward again, but it's like the interim page is just deleted from my history as though I never visited it at all.

Is anyone else getting this? It's really strange and disorientating.

I'm on Chrome on Windows 10 on a desktop.

Hi, this is still happening. It had seemed to get a bit better but this morning it's worse. Using the back button takes it back to the last non-MN page.

I am so sorry this is still causing problems. Here are some options that might resolve the issue.

1. make sure you are using the latest version of the browser - got to updates and update that browser
2. try clearing your browser history via settings, close the app and open again
3. reset the browser via settings - please note this will remove any browser extensions you might have (such as ad blockers)

Please do let us know if you are still having this problem after trying those.

I understand that this is very frustrating and we are trying to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks Tracey, it's good that it's being looked into, as it has been going on for a long time.
I have the latest version on my phone and I bought a new phone about a month ago (so no history or problem extensions etc) and it still happens. I also don't have adblocker.

It happened to me the other day on my brand new phone too - I haven't set anything up or added anything to the browser on that, didn't even transfer my old files, and it had an update as soon as I turned it on.

It doesn't seem to happen as much at the moment for me but I definitely noticed it as a one off.

Still happening. As an experiment would you (MNHQ tech) be able to turn off all of the adverts on the mobile site for 24 hours to see if that fixes the problem?

MNHQ, are you any closer to solving this? It's driving me insane.

Is it maybe connected to the fact that my browser (safari on iPad or iPhone) also loses MN as a stored tab quite often, just returning a blank page with no back button? That happen for anyone else?

And recently when I lose the stored tab, sometimes when I try and get it back through browser history, it’s not there. So for example, this morning I was browsing chat and left it open in safari. Then came back to it a bit later and the page wouldn’t load. Then checking history, there was no evidence that I’d been on chat at all that morning. (Incidentally I also wonder if this is what’s causing the threads not changing colour when read issue)

That's interesting, the stored thing isn't happening to me but I have an android phone.

I’m on safari on an iPhone and the stored thing has never happened to me.
