Mumsnet Live Event - What would you like to see?

RachelMumsnet · 06/06/2017 15:21

We're looking at hosting a Mumsnet Live event in 2018 (at Birmingham NEC) and we'd love to hear about what you'd like to see (or rather not see).

The idea is to transport Mumsnet from the world-wide web to RL.Whether you decide to bring the kids for a family day-out or come alone for much-needed relaxation and inspiration (and hook up with other Mumsnetters), there will be something for the whole family, including:

  • Talks and panel discussions with inspiring speakers; from authors and bloggers and food writers to parenting experts and psychologists and thought leaders.

  • health and fitness workshops and masterclasses

  • Style and beauty demos plus opportunities to talk to experts

  • Food tasting and cookery demonstrations

  • Entertainment for you and your children through music, dance, and art

Let us know what YOU would like to see at Mumsnet Live by 10am Friday 16 June. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a draw to win £100 voucher for Love2Shop.

Everyone should go by their MN user ID. You could have name badges, and a "name change" stall where one could change them, temporarily or permenantly.

Non-MNers who visit would get assigned one of those user8473738474 names upon entry to MumsnetLive!

Surely we should have our own Bootcamp pop-up? Wink

Sycamorewindmills · 08/06/2017 08:55

Travel agency specialising in Maui

Dressing up corner for little boys consisting only of sparkly dresses

A representative from the Penguin bollard company

MsHooliesCardigan · 08/06/2017 11:37

Why do I get the impression some of you aren't taking this seriously?

AdaColeman · 08/06/2017 12:37

On the last afternoon we could have a tea dance (gin in teacups natch) with naice cake such as lemon drizzle, and the lovely posters from the Strictly threads could lead out with the Valeta.

@MNHQ

The spirit of MN rests a lot of the time with the 'hive mind' of MNetters - I think you need to think outside the bounds of inviting experts in to 'tell us' about stuff, and give us a chance to 'tell them' about stuff. As PPs have said we want to tell M&S and every other retailer where they are going wrong with clothes that don't suit us, as well as other kinds of retailers (holiday companies - why don't you let us book interconnecting rooms for families that don't want to share with three kids?).

We also need to find a way to reach the many many women who post on here and get support on controlling relatives and partners. I don't know how you do that but some confidential areas for support would be ideal.

Also maybe it should be a masked ball Wink

bilbodog · 08/06/2017 14:59

Im not coming if there are spiders present - eeeek, what if they escape and we have to burn down the NEC ?

DJBaggySmalls · 08/06/2017 16:17

A Spa Grin
Seriously tho dont do that.

chantico · 08/06/2017 16:36

A microsuction stand

Modestine · 08/06/2017 17:51

I'm seconding Piglet John.

CMOTDibbler · 08/06/2017 18:10

Sporners Corner Grin with microsuction and blackhead removal

But 'live feedback' sessions would be great and give companies loads of information. So you could sign up for Boots cosmetics sessions, M&S season preview (but not the pink dress...), anything they wanted user feedback for and they'd have access to lots of women during the show.

SoupDragon · 08/06/2017 18:19

Gin bar
Maui tourist information board
Stall selling baby pasta (ah.... the good old days...)
Bat protection society.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 08/06/2017 18:55

A Spartacus section with Stephanie Davies-Arai, Julia Long, Miranda Yardley and Gender-Critical Dad.

Sittinginthesun · 08/06/2017 19:09

Interesting idea...I can imagine a large conference hall, where we can give feedback to M & S and the like, and hear interesting talks by inspirational Mumsnetters.

Outside, cosy little areas for Woolly Hugs, baking ideas, book corners etc.

Lots of places to drink proper tea, eat cakes. And a gin bar.

Farahilda · 08/06/2017 19:17

Stands for the 'let toys be toys' and 'this is my child' campaigns

Info sessions on school applications and appeals processes (I cannot be the only one who wonder what prh47 et al look like!)

Maybe some author talks - someone like Anthony Horowitz who writes for both adult and child audiences

And a 'design and anti-terrorist bollard' competition

biscuitmillionaire · 08/06/2017 21:41

I would like to invite senior politicians from the major parties to discuss the absolute fucking scandal of the number of non-resident fathers who pay zero maintenance to support their children, leaving single mothers to struggle with not only the emotional and practical burden single-handed, but also to struggle financially. It's a national scandal. I hear it so often. These men should be publicly shamed, on full-size posters with their names and how many years they've avoided paying maintenance for. It should be as socially unacceptable as drink-driving has become.

theclick · 08/06/2017 23:46

A female CEO who can talk about the realities of being a female CEO.

C4pinkwheels · 09/06/2017 06:50

Free buses for mumsnetters on benefits to be able to attend (paid for by sponsors)

Village show style competition with Mumsnet special categories: best AIBU question, Naice canapés, best packed lunch (judged by kids) best cocktail, best break up comfort food, knitted buns for the bun fight, open mic stand up comedy sessions because we have some first class comedians on here, most beautiful family parade (sponsored by Boden)

Knicker road testing using a contraption like the chair road test in Ikea

tccat · 09/06/2017 08:13

Free Yoni massage 😀

RachelMumsnet · 23/06/2017 16:56
