Hello, hello,
Tech's feeling very brave and has said we can start playing with the new toy he's built us - Mumsnet local . The idea is that it's going to be a guide to all the best stuff for parents and kids in the UK, broken down by geographic area.

It is still very much in it's infancy and so we are not going to add navigation to it from the menu bars for a wee while whilst we (ie you pretty please!) refine and improve it. So please, please take a look and fill it up with lots of great listings because obviously it's not going to be much cop until it's got something in it, and right now it's a bit sad with only a couple of north london hotspots added .

By way of added incentive anyone who adds a listing will be entered into our competition to win a trip to fairy school

So please do take a look, add as much as you can and let us know of any problems/ suggested improvements.

Many cheers,
Mumsnet Towers

There's something I've been thinking about for a while, which is a listings service that details baby-friendly cafes, restaurants, shops, libraries etc etc - basically any public space where you can (a) easily take your baby in a pram when you need to use the loo (this prob means using their disabled facilities); (b) where they have proper baby changing facilities; (c) where they do not discourage breastfeeding on-site. These are the criteria I can think of at the moment - might it be possible to add something like this to your listings? Perhaps the easiest thing would be to add a series of symbols to each entry as a sort of checklist.

Another useful thing would be a listing of the cinemas offering parent and baby screenings.

I had the same issue Shonaspurtle - I gave the details on here and tech ifxed it.

Hi. It's straightforward to add a listing but i find the search facility very difficult to use. Maybe i'm not using it properly but i can['t ever find anything....

suzywong · 26/04/2007 13:55

Well I'm very happy for you that it's up and running and all
but it's just tipped me RIGHT Over the homesickness abyss

In my head I am trotting down Hornsey Lane with my Fragrant Boys in the midst of high spring

PavlovtheCat · 26/04/2007 14:01

Does not have my area here at all . No one have anything good to say about plym? Not even a map?!

Or maybe I am doing it wrong...

IdrisTheDragon · 26/04/2007 14:06

Why are there no listings where I live? I am addressing this problem .

exbury · 26/04/2007 16:30

You know you are on a hiding to nothing when you put in your postcode and it says:

Sorry, we couldn't find any UK streets matching XXX XXX

We do exist!

PrettyCandles · 08/05/2007 07:22

The map isn't working properly for Wokingham area: when I input RG41 it shows the RG40 area instead, and it is too far zoomed in. When I clicked on 'map' for an attraction in rg41 it again showed rg40 - different area this time - and again so zoomed in that the attraction wasn't visible.

Can Breastfeeding Support be listed somewhere other than 'Tradespeople'!

Also, when editing a listing can we please be able to change the attraction's name?

What a good idea! I have added some of our local parks and groups and places of interest. Can we put local garages and that type of thing on there too...it might be useful if someone new to the area wants to know 24 hour petrol places...or convenience shops (we all get somewhere new and drive around for hours looking for petrol, or that forgotten packet of wipes etc.) And what about adding good local garages which do car repair etc...so if people break down...or need a part they might have some local suggestions of garages that won't rip them off. (not everyone is a member of the AA etc) hmm....can't think of anything elas right now...but will add more listings as I find more places!!

ludaloo · 29/05/2007 14:46

(is it me or is this thread back to front???)

Anyway...could we have a camping/caravaning section?? I have just put a wonderful campsite under "days out" section...as you can visit the place for the day too, but thought it might be a good section to include.
