Mumsnet local is live - please have a look and add as many listings as you can!

Hello, hello,
Tech's feeling very brave and has said we can start playing with the new toy he's built us - Mumsnet local . The idea is that it's going to be a guide to all the best stuff for parents and kids in the UK, broken down by geographic area.

It is still very much in it's infancy and so we are not going to add navigation to it from the menu bars for a wee while whilst we (ie you pretty please!) refine and improve it. So please, please take a look and fill it up with lots of great listings because obviously it's not going to be much cop until it's got something in it, and right now it's a bit sad with only a couple of north london hotspots added .

By way of added incentive anyone who adds a listing will be entered into our competition to win a trip to fairy school

So please do take a look, add as much as you can and let us know of any problems/ suggested improvements.

Many cheers,
Mumsnet Towers

Sorry - proper TECH question - how do change the colour of the flag on the map if chosen incorretly at first?

Tech · 09/03/2007 23:56

Hi MT, At the moment you can't. We'll put a fix in overnight so you can change the category when you do corrections.

Cheers,
Tech

not sure if someone has said this but there's something not quite right about the "town, street or postcode" If I ented Kingston (a town) it comes up with hundreds of streets throughout the UK with the name Kingston in them and suggests I might want to modify by search

Tech · 10/03/2007 00:26

Hi, Yes it's expecting that to be Kingston upon Thames, rather than just Kingston. We can probably make the towns search search single words. I'll take a look at that.

Regards,
Tech

Tech,

Sorry, only just seen your response ...

It was St Fagan's Museum - Its address is:
St Fagan's National History Museum,
Cardiff,
CF5 6XB

... I managed to put it on by cheating a little bit (ie clicking on the map where I knew it was), but there are other places that are so big they have their own postcode - like Big Pit (address is just Torfaen and the post code).

Sorry to throw up a niggle! I think it's a great idea!

Iota · 10/03/2007 12:42

don't worry LL - I put it back and added Giraffe, but now I can't find any ref to Wagamama at all - not just on the map

Tech · 10/03/2007 15:12

Hi Iota,
I've put it back (Wagamama). It had found its way to Leighton Buzzard......

UnquietDad · 10/03/2007 15:13

Do recommendations have a Ponceiness Rating? If not, I demand one.

Iota · 10/03/2007 15:14

thanks Tech - it's becoming a well-travelled marker

Iota · 10/03/2007 15:39

Tech, I know I'm like a dog with a bone with this new toy, but when you click on the listings to get more details (or if you click on the map) it doesn't show the web address in the list of info - and I have diligently been putting the web addresses in.

Iota · 10/03/2007 15:40

(didi I ever tell you about my former life doing system testing?)

Tech · 10/03/2007 18:10

Hi all,

Thanks for all the comments so far. Keep them coming. We've made a change that was requested yesterday - when you move around on the map by dragging or zooming, the list on the right hand side will update to show the listings that are closest to the bit of the map displayed at the time.

Regards,
Tech

Twiglett · 10/03/2007 18:13

Tech - you know how you can choose to not display your name when posting a listing .. can we have the same option when one makes a comment about someone else's listing too please

and can we have shops in classifications please

Tech · 10/03/2007 18:21

Hi Twiglett,
We are going to have a discussion on categories etc this week, to give things time to settle down. I'm under orders not to add any new ones before then.

Cheers,
Tech

DumbledoresGirl · 10/03/2007 18:34

I don't get this. I have just filled in lots of details about an attraction near to me including the email address and website, but these last two details do not appear in the final page. Why is that please?

Iota · 10/03/2007 18:47

I'm such a saddo that I'm doing this on a saturday night - am going to stop in a minute though

nikkie · 10/03/2007 20:52

I can't get stuff on,

Fubsy · 10/03/2007 23:28

Ive added an item, but now I cant see it when I log the details in.
