Let alone post on them.

It's beyond a joke now, vast swathes of MN are now totally inaccessible to me. Can we PLEASE sort this out?

Still not working in my iPad and intermittent on phone. I honestly don't think I should have to install things in order to use the site, and quite frankly I think it beggars belief that HQ think it's an acceptable solution, just fix it if you want people to use the site.

Deux · 03/03/2017 18:14

Same issues for me on mobile site, safari and on iPad and iPhone.

Awful. If it's a short thread (I'm on 25 messages per page), I can manage to read it OK, so maybe 2 pages. Any longer than that and it's freezing and whiting out at the bottom. I then have to open another tab and its ok for a few pages then phtt.

Am contemplating and ad blocker, what's everyone using? AdBlock plus? Funny thing is the ads don't bother me at all as I manage to screen them out.

HarlotLipstick · 03/03/2017 18:15

Still the same problems here too.

QuitMoaning · 03/03/2017 18:35

Still rubbish and frustrating. Just can't be bothered anymore especially as no one at HQ seems that bothered in resolving the user experience. The silence is deafening.

I've just had to download ad blocker on my iPhone 6 and it's working so far. I can't download one on my iPad as it's not compatible or something.

SauvignonBlanche · 03/03/2017 19:27

I tried opening the app on my iPhone but really didn't like it and found it hard to follow but ever since I did that whenever i try getting on to MN through safari it hasn't worked it just directs me to the app.

i tried installing ad block but that made no difference so I've now deleted that app and the adblock app.

I don't want to sit on my NHS laptop all night, firstly I don't think its appropriate to be using it with a glass of wine in my hand for non-work purposes and secondly it feels like i'm at work! Sad

helpimitchy · 03/03/2017 19:32

Which app did you download?

helpimitchy · 03/03/2017 19:33

You want Adblock Plus. Then you just go to Settings - Safari - and then turn it on.

PinkBuffalo · 03/03/2017 19:38

This is the first time I've been able to read a thread for a couple of days! Like everyone else, same problems. I can post now though!

Becca19962014 · 03/03/2017 19:38

I've spent thirty minutes trying to read the end of a thread and it is still just hanging, I even tried flipping it. I've noticed that there are ads that my iPad doesn't load so it just hangs and I've seen a lot that automatically play, which for me at least makes the site unusable as I just don't have the mobile speed available for such ads and to view the forum.

I understand why ads are necessary but, to be honest, this is a good way to end a site. I helped run a forum, albeit many years ago and, what killed it was over use of ads. Not everyone has wifi or broadband - there are parts of the U.K. where it is limited to what, if any, mobile signal a person can get (I'm lucky if I can get three bars and very rarely I can get 4g 99% of the time it is 3G). Yes you can expect people to pay, we tried that - all it meant was people either left to join other free forums or as we found with subscription comes much higher expectations from staff. Those who don't subscribe, possibly because they want to remain anonymous or can't afford to, end up being bogged down in ads and leave to find sites that are not.

More and more people post about using ad blockers, but that makes the site worse for those of us who cannot do so as more ads are deployed or using the app which some of us don't have the option to do.

People shouldn't have to download additional software to post here, whether it's your app or ad blocker.

There are threads that were popular which are now empty because people cannot get on to use them.

I don't know what the answer is but like I said above I do know overzealous use of ads meant the forum I was a part of died and the reason was ads. My local paper is online and recently they posted on social media about people not using it enough in the printed copy the response has been simply that ads make it unusable due to bandwidth needed.

Becca19962014 · 03/03/2017 19:39

Sorry that was so long.

ThreeFish · 03/03/2017 19:43

Thanks @helpimitchy
Adblock plus has solved the problem.

helpimitchy · 03/03/2017 19:49

Glad to hear it Fish

CoffeeAndEnnui · 03/03/2017 19:53

I'm so glad to see this thread. The site has been shockingly slow or entirely blank for me in recent days and I just assumed it was my phone. Shall stop dumping all my apps now. Please sort this HQ, it is infuriating enough to make me look elsewhere for my online procrastination!

rumblingDMexploitingbstds · 03/03/2017 19:53

Thanks for the update Katherine, but no, still no improvement for me on Safari ipad either. It loaded the front page but not fully, so I can't click on anything.

MrsBellefleur · 03/03/2017 19:57

Still the same here, this was 15 mins ago. Just downloaded and enabled that ad block plus so will see how we get on with that.

SLOW! It's so fucking slow now, I can't even get long threads to load any more
P1nkP0ppy · 03/03/2017 19:59

No better 😡
Giving up.

Hooleywhipper · 03/03/2017 20:01

I've just started to experience trouble with loading threads,as from last night 😡

AuntieStella · 03/03/2017 20:13

The updates from MNHQ are coming at 36 hour intervals (which flies in the face of good practice).

I gave it a decent shot in hope of improvement in either regular messages from MNHQ (maybe in line with the received wisdom on 'good practice' of every 3 hours or so, even when there's nothing to,say, just so people don't feel they're shouting into a void) or actual progress in fixing it.

But I now have an adblocker.

Will MNHQ be telling actual/potential advertisers how many potential viewers were lost to blockers because of 3 straight days of unusability on Safari?

Deux · 03/03/2017 20:24

I've just installed Adblock Plus and so far so good.

Tbh, I've never felt the need to have ads blocked as I've not experienced any lagging or slowing in pages loading and navigation on mumsnet or anywhere else.

But if it works then I'm not sure if I'll be bothered to revert back.

So thanks to mumsnet, no ads. 😀

Fraggleface · 03/03/2017 20:27

I've given up looking at MN several times over the last few days after numerous, often futile, attempts to load pages on new safari tabs.
Please sort your shit out MNHQ (or at least update us on what's going on)!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 03/03/2017 20:30

I started reading this thread this evening because I've had the same problems as others the last few days. Site unusable. Was just wondering if I should jump ahead to the last page because the problem seemed to have been solved and lo and behold, it happened again. 20.15. There was a criteo ad at the top of the page it happened on. I have reloaded and reloaddd and finally managed to get the site to work properly. Safari on iPhone 6 (which worked for months fine until very recently)

CurlyhairedAssassin · 03/03/2017 20:32

Sorry 20.18 I meant. If that makes any difference. I tried testing the criteo ad link to the site it pointed to and even that wouldn't load. So it does need sorting out as even the ads don't work!!!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 03/03/2017 20:34

And it's all draining my battery summat rotten!
