SLOW! It's so fucking slow now, I can't even get long threads to load any more

Let alone post on them.

It's beyond a joke now, vast swathes of MN are now totally inaccessible to me. Can we PLEASE sort this out?

Same here, brief spell of working then frozen.
Bit miffed as can't install the recommended Ad blocker on my i Pad, not compatible with my device apparently.
Have had to install the MN app to access the threads in the interim but hope normal service will be resumed soon !

ThoughtExperiment · 03/03/2017 12:47

I have also just installed Adblock plus, almost against my will, but things were getting so ridiculous that I had no choice! It's bonkers, MNHQ, I love this site and it provides so much support, but only if we can get on it!!

All of the faffing around, freezing Windows, having to kill tabs, trying to refresh etc etc over the last couple of weeks was really beginning to taint the MN brand for me - I was getting irrationally angry with the site but it has been such a big part of my life that I had to keep trying. Installing the Adblock is unfortunate but I feel like my love for Mumsnet has a new lease of life now!

PageStillNotFound404 · 03/03/2017 13:19

I've installed Adblocker too.

Yiayoula I had that message on the first couple of ad blocker apps I tried, but I found the compatible version eventually. It depends what version of iOS you're using so it's worth googling for the specific version you're on. (It's possible that if you're using a v old iPad, it may not be supported any more but anything running iOS 9 or iOS 10 should have an ad blocker available.)

bluebump · 03/03/2017 13:28

I've had to resort to using the app now as I'm not sure my ancient iPad will even download an ad blocker but I want to go back to MN on Safari, unfortunately I've only managed to read about two threads in 36 hours despite trying.

Yiayoula · 03/03/2017 13:38

Page: would you mind posting which ad blocker you used, please ?
I pad is running iOS 9 but despite googling what blockers would be suitable, when I tried installing from the App Store still get the "incompatible" response : tried with 3 different ones .
Thanks in anticipation.

Am spending far too much time on trying to resolve this , as are we all ...... ConfusedConfusedAngryAngryAngry

PageStillNotFound404 · 03/03/2017 13:46

I'm using Adblock (icon is the bottom half of the earth part-covered by a red stop-sign shaped shield if that makes sense). I'm running iOS 10 though so it might be a different one for you. Have you tried putting "ad block for iOS 9" in the App Store search field?

DollyMcDolly · 03/03/2017 13:52

Downloaded an ad blocker and even though it's not actually blocking ads, it's got the site working on my iPhone.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/03/2017 13:55

Dolly have you actually enabled the blocker, not just installed it?

My link in my last post explains how.

Post : FlowersFlowersStarStar** and much GinGinGinGinto you : thanks so much, have installed the one you described and all is right with my world again !

Appears that lots of us are opting to do this due to the current issues......

SauvignonBlanche · 03/03/2017 14:05

I got so excited this morning when it looked like MN was working on my iPad but I tried to go to the next page (on this thread) and it just froze again. Sad
I'm an old lady technophobe with an old iPad but will have to investigate this Adblock business.

Still no update from MNHQ? Angry Shock

heymammy · 03/03/2017 14:16

Same situation here Tech. Using the desktop site on an iPad with Safari.

Active convos load no problem but when I click on a thread, it doesn't matter how many posts are on it I get the first few posts to load then nothing. Sometimes I have the wheel of doom at the top and sometimes not.

I've just clicked on a thread which took me into mumsnet local and the thread loaded fine (it only had 3 posts in it though)

This has only started happening for me since yesterday or the day before.

SLOW! It's so fucking slow now, I can't even get long threads to load any more

heymammy · 03/03/2017 14:18

Just to add...when mumsnet freezes I open a new tab in safari and it works fine for another few minutes before freezing again Confused. That's how I finally managed to get this thread to load fully so that I could post!

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 03/03/2017 14:33

Adblocker just installed and it 'appears' to be working better

I have only been doing it for 2 minutes though

Yiayoula · 03/03/2017 14:47

Have been on MN for the last half hour with no problems since installing the ad block : so fingers crossed you will be ok Rufus.

Also managed to browse our local newspaper online for the first time in ages : normally the ads blocked the pages to such an extent that I would give up.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 03/03/2017 14:54

Was just coming on yia to say that it seems to be fine now

Grin

mumsnet I shouldnt have to install things to get a website to work surely?

Cornettoninja · 03/03/2017 15:05

That thread today about a dodgy pop up is interesting.....

I'm having to close the tab when it freezes and google this thread to get in.... despite how this sounds I am actually very lazy and haven't installed an ad blocker yet. But I will as this is my go to time waster site while dd uses me to nap on.

It's not a stroppy threat, but I doubt I will remove it simply because I'm lazy, which is a shame given that I don't mind ads to support this website as well as others I frequent.

Dreamanddream · 03/03/2017 15:11

SAME HERE

It's taken me HALF AN HOUR to get onto site stuff and onto this thread. Just half blank pages.

I almost never come on anymore.

Dreamanddream · 03/03/2017 15:13

And why should I have to instal ad blocker to access this site??

I don't have to do that to access any other site. It should work without that.

Dreamanddream · 03/03/2017 15:16

Plus what's the point in ads on the site if everyone has to install ad blocker?!

NanTheWiser · 03/03/2017 15:20

For older iPads (IOS 8 or older) AdBlock won't work, so that rules mine outSad although I do use AdBlockPlus on my desktop, which does help to speed things up a bit. That's why I'm using the Puffin browser, which doesn't seem to be affected by the freezing problems. But it's really bad that such a huge website such as MN should be having theses problems - hope it's sorted soon...

KatherineMumsnet · 03/03/2017 15:44

Right folks,

Tech have just spoken with one of our ads suppliers, they spotted a script that was causing a long load on threads when particular ads were shown.

Can anyone now see an improvement in load times?

FfionFlorist · 03/03/2017 15:46

IPad and Safari here and echo everyone else's experience. Imagine MNHQ won't want to make the ad blocker advice widely used....the golden goose and all that.

SauvignonBlanche · 03/03/2017 15:47

Thanks for that NanTheWiser I won't waste my time on Adblock if it won't work on my iPad.

Perhaps MNHQ are trying to give us an update but their screen keeps freezing? Wink

SauvignonBlanche · 03/03/2017 15:48

Oh xpost off to try on my iPad!
