Why is MN so slow?

I'm not moaning - honest!

But Mumsnet s very slow - all the time. There's definitely nothing wrong with my internet, I have 200MB download and all other sites are fine.

I just wonder why this is? Are you throttled?

As I've just posted on the other thread, the other day on my laptop the site was NOT SECURE on login. It really, truly, honestly was not. It seems to be now on my laptop, but it WAS NOT before.

Really!

I'd have thought they'd be more concerned about this, tbh.

That isn't clear - if you use the log in buttons at the top it isn't secure - not it is sometimes and not others...I mean you can log in securely but you need to go to the bottom of a thread and use the 'log in to mumsnet' option there
And actually if you reach MN from a google search the first log in you see is the unsecure one...
(Also just had a weird thing - had been logging in and out to do the images and then came back to post this -pretty sure I was logged in through the secure method ...it had my username in the comments box but wouldn't let me post -instead there was blue writing underneath the comments box (not the normal you must register thing) - saying 'please log in' ... hmmm)

I agree that Mumsnet is much slower than other forums and has been for ages. It's the same whether I'm on a netbook, laptop or phone; I assume that I've not just coincidentally bought devices that happen to not like the website.

It's still horrifically slow on my ipad too, using safari, to the point of near unusability. It's taking a good 10+ seconds to load up each page even from a refresh.

Just took 27 seconds to leave this page after hitting the active link! Internet connection stable and fast as I checked it when the page was taking so long. It's just awful

Still very slow. Chrome on my tablet. Still have the insecure icon at the top of my page but the login page is secure.

Very slow on both computer and phone. Its getting tedious.

If it carries on like this it might jeopardise my steadfast MN addiction, which actually wouldn't be a bad thing Grin

It's very slow for me too, and we have very fast broadband. All other sites are fine. It's happening both on my phone and on the laptop.

It was incredibly slow at about 1pm - it took nearly 30 seconds to load each thread, and it didn't seem to matter how long the threads were.
I'm also getting 504 pages sometimes.

Dear god, the entire site is grinding to a sloooooow and painful halt.

MNHQ, this really is a big deal, whilst your die hard users may not give up and leave, it gives a pretty poor impression that you run what is essentially a web forum with very little high bandwidth content, which should run blindingly fast, and somehow make using the site like wading through treacle.

Maybe it's time to consider building a new site from scratch/ switching to a new platform, rather than continually patching up this one.

Painfully painfully slow - I'm on an otherwise very speedy ipad pro here. Very fed up with it.

19 seconds to go from the first page of this thread to second. Nothing else I use on t'internet is this slow.

It's crap and MN clearly couldn't care less since they think an occasional platitude is all they need to deliver.

It is very slow for me when using a browser but fine when I use the App on my phone.

I'm using firefox and its so so slow. I feeling like giving up as it takes so long for anything to load.

Very slow for me too (safari on a macbook pro). It's been like this for ages!

For me it's all very erratic: one minute it's super quick and the next it takes ages to load anything and heaven help me if I have more than one tab of MN open at the same time. Then it's super slow. No problems with my computer and other websites.

Windows 8.1, Firefox, laptop.
