I'm sure it's been done before but what is the accepted MN etiquette when you spot or think you have spotted someone you know in RL?

Damn have changed my mind again

How does one bring up MN in RL conversation exactly?

OP posts:
TheBlonde · 23/02/2007 20:55

Right I have CAT'd my suspect

filthymindedvixen · 25/02/2007 13:57

Am I the only one who checked their emails just to be on the safe side?

TheBlonde · 25/02/2007 20:42

no reply as yet but I don't think they forward CATs on the weekend

How on earth do you recognise someone from Mumsnet?
I can understand those who have put 2 and 2 together based on postings, but you can't just recognise a Mumsnetter in a supermarket surely?

hoxtonchick · 25/02/2007 20:49

i have been spotted twice, both times by lurkers (i think). one was someone from work, the other a friend. didn't make me change anything. but i'm fairly indiscreet in real life anyway....

Rhubarb · 25/02/2007 20:51

I don't give a crap who "spots" me btw, I'm no different in real life and don't post anything on here that I wouldn't discuss with others anyway. I have no skeletons!

leahsmum · 25/02/2007 20:52

I was spotted by a fellow MNer on my way to the labour ward last week. She posted on my birth announcement thread - not bothered one bit. Find it quite amusing actually.

kid · 25/02/2007 21:00

I discovered a MNer at DCs school. She had posted about a trip her child was on which matched my DDs school trip. I checked some of her old posts and new 100% it was her. I approached her the next day and she said had a feeling it was me before! Sadly she is no longer a MNer though.

TheBlonde · 04/03/2007 15:13

Well it's been a week now and no response
Also no more posts from my suspect so they have probably namechanged!!

OP posts:
ucm · 04/03/2007 15:32

I would ask them 'Is that You xxxx', if you REALLY knew is was them I would plague them with this by email/mail. Eventually they will get so fecked off with it that they will cave in go mad.

IMO.

TheBlonde · 20/04/2007 15:27

Been thinking about this again...
I never got any reply to my CAT and the person has now namechanged so they know who I am but I don't know their new posting name

Should I be offended?

OP posts:
Tinker · 20/04/2007 15:33

Do you know them well?

TheBlonde · 20/04/2007 15:35

Reasonably so, they are not just an acquaintance

OP posts:
GameGirly · 20/04/2007 15:38

Is it a colleague? IS IT ME?!

Tinker · 20/04/2007 15:39

Have they posted personal stuff?

TheBlonde · 20/04/2007 15:41

Nope

OP posts:
krabbiepatty · 20/04/2007 15:43

Hoxtonchick spotted me at a paddling pool but we had CATed etc so probably does not count

Dinosaur · 20/04/2007 15:45

Hoxtonchick also identified my DH and DS2 in the playground at London Fields - she didn't ask him "are you dinosaur's DH" though!

Tinker · 20/04/2007 15:45

Hmm, odd. Can understand name change but not the rest.

krabbiepatty · 20/04/2007 15:47

Hoxtonchick has very sharp eyes. You and I probably snatch each other's chicken kievs every other day, Dinosaur, and just haven't twigged.

Dinosaur · 20/04/2007 15:50

You have almost certainly seen my DH and DS3 whizzing round in there buying over-packaged fruit and veg and cartons of goats milk.

1dilemma · 21/04/2007 01:26

UCM is it you?

ha ha

UmSami · 21/04/2007 02:46

Man MNET is SO MUCH MORE COMPLICATED than I originally thought!!! I'm relatively new to this and don't get to chat as often as I like...what the heck is CATing...

AM i ok just plunging into conversations and starting to chat (as I am doing now)

Do I need to introduce myself...?

Correct me now if i'm rule breaking...major paranoia moment lurking LOL [desperately searches for crazy looking emoticon]

For the record...maybe I'm oblivious but i'd be kinda chuffed if I was spotted...glad to see that my comments were of note! RAther have it done quietly though...again what the BEEP is CATing hehehe

AlwaysWatchingCastawayAt2am · 21/04/2007 03:21

i too am beginning to worry - so many people seem to 'know' each other. are newcomers welcome to dive in (like this?)
