I'm sure it's been done before but what is the accepted MN etiquette when you spot or think you have spotted someone you know in RL?

oh yes issymum- they feature quite highly in google posts unfortunately. I've found myself blathering on in the past when I've been searching for vaccine info .

skiwear · 20/02/2007 16:58

oh yes jj2/issymum it's really scary if you put you chat name into google see what comes up. (Havn't done it btw Issymum!)

WideWebWitch · 20/02/2007 20:40

Runtothehills, it wasn't me was it? (I know etiquette almost demands that you say it wasn't!) I don't think it can have been since I have never ever spoken to anyone other than dh when we've been away for the weekend! And I've certainly never admitted to being a mnuetter, did this woman admit to it?

Carmenere · 20/02/2007 20:59

Now I am paranoid because I have mentioned mn to random women in hotels. That said I have never been to Mousses in Lefkas or whatever the au courant mn holiday destination is............

motherinferior · 20/02/2007 21:00

I've been spotted. Twice. It was hilarious. And that's not counting the old mates I remet here.

MrsGoranVisnjic · 20/02/2007 21:04

I think this has happened to me judging by the kind of things a rl friend has asked me about and when and where she's shown concern - makes me uncomfortable as she hasn't said anything - almost like someone is spying on me

CountTo10 · 20/02/2007 21:08

I've been spotted by someone I work with - she guessed based on work hrs etc I'd been posting about. Does make me think sometimes about how easily recognisable you can be without realising. I am that oblivious my own mother could be posting on here and I would't know!!!!

CanSleepWontStarve · 20/02/2007 21:12

I spotted the wife of one of dh's colleagues when she mentioned something obscure about him. I just blurted out that I knew her in RL, and told her who I was (my dh had actually spoken to her that day!). Should I have been more discreet?

MamaG · 20/02/2007 21:18

I was spotted by a work mate after i drew a pic of a whisk and linked it on here

I was scared.

she CLAIMS to just be a lurker

MissGolightly · 20/02/2007 21:25

I often wonder if famous people are lurking under an MN persona. Wouldn't surprise me at all to learn Cherie Blair was a regular, I keep looking out for Mum2Leo or number10dream. What do you think Mrs Thatcher's talk name would be? IronLady. MrsDennis. MilkSnatcher.

twoisenoughmum · 20/02/2007 21:40

Can anyone summarise etiquette for me? This happened to me yesterday, I recognised someone I mean. I have looked at all her postings feeling like a stalker - we have had clashes on here - but I quite like her in RL. Should I keep quiet or tell her?

Well if it was me I'd want to know, definitely.

SenoraPostrophe · 20/02/2007 21:42

twoisenoughmum -tell!

it's important to tell, I think.

NadineBaggott · 20/02/2007 21:42

er the lady in or-arnj is moi - you is the one with the sassy bag and sprog.

NadineBaggott · 20/02/2007 21:43

'supermarket shoppers'

Tinker · 20/02/2007 21:44

Oh, tell her. Clashes on here and then realise you know her must be weird.

My blood ran a little chilly recently when a friend emailed a link to netmums...a do avoid very local meet-up threads, to close to home.

NadaveBaggott · 20/02/2007 22:21

I could have chosen this one

TheBlonde · 20/02/2007 22:22

Hmmm I have concluded that it isn't who I thought it was...

OP posts:
swedishmum · 20/02/2007 22:49

That's OK CSWS - I thought it was funny. DH was even more amused! I'm just terrified that any of dh's relatives read what I write, but I don't think they know how to use computers.

WideWebWitch · 21/02/2007 17:54

OI Rantothehills, confirm or deny please!

RanToTheHills · 21/02/2007 20:40

No,www, defintely wasn't you, honestly and truly (as ds1 would say!)

WideWebWitch · 21/02/2007 22:34

Hmm, do you promise? Please confirm county, or, if london, first 3 letters of postcode and then I will believe you and stop being paranoid... TIA.
