New feature - @ mentions

Afternoon

As previously requested, we're very pleased to introduce a new tag function.

You will now be able to tag Mumsnetters by name on Talk threads - just type @ followed by their username, et voila! The MNer in question will get an email notification (unless they've turned the feature off). So to tag user LovelyMNer, you'd type @LovelyMNer, and so forth.

This is now available to all users on the Mumsnet site and in the Talk app. It's switched on by default, but if it's not for you, just turn it off by going to Customise Settings.

As usual, this is a beta version, so please do let us know what you think and how it works for you, and we'll feed all your thoughts back to our tech team.

I do wish it would be a notification on here though. I have a special mn email that I don't check.

Gah, I bloody hate it when websites have a tag system. I wouldn't mind if it was used in a useful way e.g. to draw attention to a thread I might not have seen but it's regularly used to address people repeatedly which gets bloody annoying!

I hope I can turn it off

Interesting - just checked my yahoo account which is used only for mn. There were 2 emails from ChangeBritain.org who I would absolutely never give any email address to. Where did the get that from - only mn have it?

MNHQ, like WellErr, I've never seen this requested and we all use short names so much eg Liney, I doubt it will work
