MNHQ - if you are going to contribute your thoughts to the trans debate, can you use a new thread

Ego147 · 29/08/2016 10:31

Because there are people who are part of the debate but have hidden and don't want to contribute to the threads you want to post on.

So please can you post your thoughts on a new thread. It would be open, its own thread and clear to see - rather than hidden in a post on a thread.

And I do appreciate that you have a lot of issues here to think about and you are not going to please everyone. Whatever decision you come to will be 'the wrong one for some'.

Enjoy your Gin and Chocolate at the staff meeting you will inevitably be having about this.

kua

A quick search reveals you have been on Site stuff before so you understand how it works and why it exists. Also lots of deletions on trans threads...thought I recognised the name.

kimmy

Do you have the right person there?

WankingMonkey · 31/08/2016 00:05

Ego I agree that they should have made a separate thread for their response. Luckily there is now a thread that pastes said response, lets hope there are answers given either there or on new threads too.

Unfortunately I cannot go along with the idea of me being a non-trans woman though. As the titles I may have to assume if this happened would take a few lines to fill in on forms to clarify what I was.

Non-trans non-black non-blonde non-skirtwearing non-footballfan non-meateating non-collegegoing non-gay biological woman. Its just a bit much, you know :S

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 31/08/2016 00:07

Yep. Working my way through the thread. Show is a black woman who hates the word cis, feigns not to understand the definition, feels "othered" by it and is demanding answers from another thread.
Kua I don't understand the question. Why should MN be beholden to what you consider to be the minority view? What is this, Mob Rule?
MN are not beholden to anyone but, as a supportive forum, do their best to make it accessible to everyone and moderate accordingly.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 31/08/2016 00:10

Fair enough kimmy

I just hadnt seen a post from show in a while...i shouldnt have assumed that you were in the same place as me in the thread

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 31/08/2016 00:20

No worries. I am slow at reading and typing this late and am bf at same time so one-finger typing taking its toll. Wink

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 31/08/2016 00:20

Sorry, what was mnhq response?

MistressMerryWeather · 31/08/2016 00:24

It's re-posted here MumOnTheRun.

MistressMerryWeather · 31/08/2016 00:24

X post.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 31/08/2016 00:31

Thanks monkey

Well look. MNHQ don't appear to care about any of us, no matter who we call ourselves..... They merely care about anyone who may be lurking

To me, it reads they want more 'customers'... Don't want to piss them off cos, after all, we are already hooked!

Customers to the site = money

This statement is all about the potential £££££££

IPityThePontipines · 31/08/2016 00:44

MumOnTheRun - you do realise that Mumsnet is a profit making business don't you, not a public service?

Well, that response was entirely predictable. It would appear that some people would like no moderation of trans threads whatsoever (except to remove the word cis, even though the only people who mention it are those complaining about it),MNHQ have persistently said that they will apply moderation guidelines to trans threads and so it continues.

I'd also say that the people coming on this thread specifically to get at Ego aren't really showing the "consciousness-raising" elements of the trans threads in the best of lights.

IPityThePontipines · 31/08/2016 00:49

I'd agree with Judy on the irony of this being "one trans thread too many" and not liking an actual trans person starting a thread about trans issues.

Would you complain about an immigrant starting a thread about immigration issues? Or someone with a disability starting a thread about disabilism?

WankingMonkey · 31/08/2016 00:56

I'm impressed you're still standing after so many dull repetitive threads about how awful trans people are Well this is slightly false. Only one of the threads was about how awful ONE transperson (Ada Wells) was The rest have been discussion threads and thats it.

I must thank Ego tbh for taking part in said discussion threads. Always helps to get a variety of views without anyone trying to shut the conversation down with threats, lies and hyperbole.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 31/08/2016 01:02

ipity yep! Yes I do 'realise' it's a profit making company etc etc..... Hence my comment that's it's all about the £££££

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 31/08/2016 01:24

Perhaps there could be a separate topic for the trans debate - that way it could be hidden and not flood active with a shit load of threads. Also means that those who want to discuss it can do do with impunity.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 31/08/2016 01:30

mum there were new users and self confessed lurkers or seldom post users who registered/de-lurked for the Sparticus thread. If it was about £ then MN would not risk a mass exodus/piss off a core demographic. Unless you mean trans debates in general and bunfights attract > people to the site...

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 31/08/2016 01:34

^ A separate topic would be good but I suspect would be seen as suppressing free speech. Trans debates have come up under Feminism, AIBU, chat, in the news and now Site stuff. That said, they did it for Brexit...

OlennasWimple · 31/08/2016 03:15

I don't know what the criteria for a new topic is, but I'd agree it might be time to consider having a Trans topic

IPityThePontipines · 31/08/2016 10:15

A trans topic has been suggested many, many times before, but apparently trans threads need to be all over the site to raise awareness "because it affects all women"

However, considering the EU referendum (which affects everyone in the UK and some way beyond) has been given it's own topic, there's no real argument against trans threads getting the same treatment now. If threads are in Active, people will still see them anyway.
