Hello all,

We've added a function to Mumsnset so that you can set up a page about yourself that other people will eventually be able to see when they click your name on Talk. We figured this would work more easiliy better than starting a "member profile" thread, though you can of course still do that if you want to. If you go to the "my registration" link above you can get started from there if you'd like to set up a profile. This is of course totally optional, and only for those as want to do it. A number of people have expressed an interest in being able to do that over the months. If you do want to, remember you can answer as many or as few of the questions as you like.

You can set your profile to be "private" so only you can see it, or visible to all mumsnetters. There's also an intermediate level "Mumsnet mates" that lets you choose who can see it. You can set up a list of "mates" by following the "Mumsnet mates" link and typing their talk names into a box.

You can also set up a photo gallery for any pictures you'd to share with other Mumsnetters. For the moment, you can set these to be either public (any registered Mumsnetter could see them) or private to you. We'll add the intermediate level to them over the next day or so.

Anyway, take a look and, as ever, tell us what you think. It's still a work in progress, so we'd appreciate input on what people think works and what doesn't.

I've set up a sample page about me (must be mad). You can see it here .

Best wishes,
Tech

MrsJC - how did you get your pic to appear in your profile?

lou33 · 17/01/2007 10:13

scheebly, tell him from me i thought his performance was oscar worthy, and it gave me a lot of hope for ds2 who has cp, but not as profoundly as the character he played in the film

i can honestly say its one film i tell everyone they must watch

uwila · 17/01/2007 10:14

The system won't let me put in the correct birthdays for my kids. The month is not an option (not a drop down box) and the years are not what I have entered.

lou33 · 17/01/2007 10:14

schNeebly!

why do i have such problems getting your name right lol?

lucykate · 17/01/2007 10:15

i've had a go at doing mine, the 'what i do' bit is not showing up on my profile page even though i have filled it in.

lou, you look so much younger than 40, are you sure you've filled in your age right???

Hulababy · 17/01/2007 10:15

Click on photos to add a picture - on the bar. I have 3 on there, but I tried to upload another one and it won't let me upload now. my photos are tiny too - about 30kb each.

lou33 · 17/01/2007 10:16

sadly yes

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 10:19

schneebly, in the profile bit there's a 'Show Photo' option, with a drop down box from which you can select one of the photos from your gallery.
think it's after the bit where you can write some general blurb about yourself

NotAnOtter · 17/01/2007 10:22

Lou you do look bloody great!!

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 10:22

I didn't even notice the what I do bit
which is OK because I don't really do anything anyway!

think there are quite few little bugs. when tech returns, we'll start whipping him and get him to work

lou33 · 17/01/2007 10:24

thanks

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 10:25

schneebly, to make the pic appear in your profile you have to write something in the 'what she says about herself' box.

schneebly · 17/01/2007 10:26

Got it now - thanks MrsJC and sandcastles.

Lou - I will hopefully see him in the summer and will pass on what you have said

lou33 · 17/01/2007 10:28

thanks schneebly

in fact i love the film so much i bought it the other day to keep, and i am going to make my young man watch it

oliveoil · 17/01/2007 10:29

How do you get pics in then?

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 10:29

No worries

asleep · 17/01/2007 10:31

i filled in the hobbies bit, but i can't see it on the profile.

lucykate · 17/01/2007 10:32

am loving this new profile thing, think its a really good idea.

Lucycat · 17/01/2007 10:33

OO!!!! liar liar your bum's on fire!!

Oldham is high up but it's nothing like Katmandu - the rest is right though?

NotAnOtter · 17/01/2007 10:34

olive - i was enjoying these!!!!

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 10:34

olive you have to add photos to your gallery via the 'photos' link (in the list of options across the top of the profile bit that starts 'My Mumsnet'
then you can choose to display one of them in 'show picture' bit in the profile bit (the bit with all the favourite films etc.)
you have to make sure you type something in the 'A Few words about you' bit to make the photo appear.

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 10:39

so TECH.....more bugs!

the 'what I do' bit doesn't show up in the profile, neither does the favourite thread bit. also people would like a bigger space to put in what they do. and Uwila has suggested some good things on here as well.

Wheh I changed the what I'm currently reading bit it just ignores my changes and puts it back to the same as Favourite books....however it does display the updated info (i.e. the correct info) on my public page. also that box is in a different font size to the rest of the page.

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 10:39

asleep, hobbies isn't showing. Tech has been alerted, but she didn't got to bed til gone 5am as he was being harrnaged by moi!

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 10:41

HE

Sorry, tech....am fully aware you are a man

asleep · 17/01/2007 10:44
