Hello all,

We've added a function to Mumsnset so that you can set up a page about yourself that other people will eventually be able to see when they click your name on Talk. We figured this would work more easiliy better than starting a "member profile" thread, though you can of course still do that if you want to. If you go to the "my registration" link above you can get started from there if you'd like to set up a profile. This is of course totally optional, and only for those as want to do it. A number of people have expressed an interest in being able to do that over the months. If you do want to, remember you can answer as many or as few of the questions as you like.

You can set your profile to be "private" so only you can see it, or visible to all mumsnetters. There's also an intermediate level "Mumsnet mates" that lets you choose who can see it. You can set up a list of "mates" by following the "Mumsnet mates" link and typing their talk names into a box.

You can also set up a photo gallery for any pictures you'd to share with other Mumsnetters. For the moment, you can set these to be either public (any registered Mumsnetter could see them) or private to you. We'll add the intermediate level to them over the next day or so.

Anyway, take a look and, as ever, tell us what you think. It's still a work in progress, so we'd appreciate input on what people think works and what doesn't.

I've set up a sample page about me (must be mad). You can see it here .

Best wishes,
Tech

why is it only MY currently reading that's gone wonky?

itsmeNDP · 17/01/2007 09:48

I'm obviously being a bit thick here but I can't see how I get to these new member profiles.... When I look on the topics page and click on the member profiles link it just takes me to the older style ones, no new ones.

I have clearly missed something really obvious...

schneebly · 17/01/2007 09:48

errrr nothing geeekgirl If you like that kind of thing!

I thought my description was concise yet accurate lol!

MrsJC - love your pics! You have fab hair! DD is beautiful!

lou33 · 17/01/2007 09:50

ndp, click the name of the poster

Hulababy · 17/01/2007 09:50

Ooh, I managed it

itsmeNDP · 17/01/2007 09:51

when I do that it takes me to the log in page, as if I am going to attempt to amend the account details... Is that right ?

lou33 · 17/01/2007 09:52

what happens when you click my name?

itsmeNDP · 17/01/2007 09:52

same thing. I'll try filling it in and see what happens.

Marina · 17/01/2007 09:53

When I click you I get a prompt to log in Lou, same for Schneebly

schneebly · 17/01/2007 09:53

lou -you are a fox! My friend from college was in 'Inside I'm Dancing' It was fab!

itsmeNDP · 17/01/2007 09:53

Oh I see it now. Thanks Lou

lou33 · 17/01/2007 09:53

how strange

i had to log in to make the profile but it seems odd to do so to see them

lou33 · 17/01/2007 09:54

aw thanks schnnebly

tell me more about this friend

i love that film, it's v inspiring to me

uwila · 17/01/2007 09:55

I think viewing the profile should be much the same format as the input form. I want to see a list not a lot of extra verbage.

And, My work stuff is not appearing.

lou33 · 17/01/2007 09:55

i mean schneebly, i do beg your pardon

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 09:55

when one clicks your name Lou, we get to your profile page. and then can click to see some extremely attractive photos of yourself

Marina · 17/01/2007 09:56

But I can see you, glam as ever when I log in so that is obviously what you have to do

itsmeNDP · 17/01/2007 09:56

I haven't done a page for me. It seemed to only want me to log in the first time and now I can see them all straight away once I click. I assume I'll need to sign in on it at the beginning of every session.

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 09:57

marina you have to put in your log in details but then you get to the profile of the person you've clicked

you seem to only have to log in once now to see profiles, not every time

lou33 · 17/01/2007 09:58

lol they are just the most recent ones i have thats all

in fact the ones with my kids i had not long got back from prague and was feeling like death, and the one of me alone was taken on friday which was the first time i felt reasonably human in a long time

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 09:59

IntergalacticWalrus · 17/01/2007 10:00

Oh god, I'll never post a pic of myslf. I look like a bag lady nex to you lot

schneebly · 17/01/2007 10:01

lou - His name is Steven Robertson - he played Michael in the film. He is from Shetland and has such a strong accent that when he first spoke to me I thought he was Nordic. He was my next door neighbour in our Halls of Residence. A lovely guy and quite eccentric in an endearing kind of way!

uwila · 17/01/2007 10:08

Tech, can we have a bigger box for "what you do"?
