Hello all,
A little bit of advance notice that we are planning to roll out our new look (as per the current home page) to the talk pages tomorrow morning (tech willing). It's mostly cosmetic stuff plus a few very slight modifications to improve functionality - a nip here, a change of hue there. Anyway we hope you like it and do, of course, let us know if there's anything you object to.
Best,
Mumsnet Towers

Just saw it now on another thread -
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

DO NOT SPLIT THREADS I HATE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IdrisTheRedNosedDragon · 15/12/2006 10:02

Do we have to split the threads?

I really don't like that.

ClementClarkeMoore · 15/12/2006 10:02

In threads I'm on, you can hardly distinguish between thread title and posts

ITS GRIM

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 15/12/2006 10:04

should have posted this here instead of other thread....

yes
think the menus for talk, products etc. should run horizontally, under the bit saying Home-Search etc.
can still have drop down menus to save space

then there wouldn't be that beige oblong at the left and you would have more space/get more posts on a page

PLEASE don't split conversations into pages - it's so awkward to navigate

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 15/12/2006 10:04

And the fact that all the messages are coming up in alphabetical order is disappointing too.
This will make it really difficult for us to post a thread and catch an answer for soemone browsing through.

This is interesting because I feel as if my usual methods of forum browsing has been completely disrupted.
I usually keep and eye on the threads in active convos and join in the busy ones near the top. Then I'll keep an eye on 'threads I'm on' in another tab.
I can't do this anymore. I'm completely confused.

There are so many excellent templates out there for forums, why choose one like this??? This is a genuine question.

JustineMumsnet · 15/12/2006 10:06

Thread splitting is for functionality - it really does put a strain on things when everyone's trying to download a 600 post thread at once. However, we will be introducing a system whereby you can override the default and tailor Talk for yourself in the new year, so you'll be able to get rid of that on an individual basis. (More change - not sure we can cope Xmas Hmm.

too many underlines doesnt help the eyes, get rid pleaseXmas Smile

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 15/12/2006 10:06

I thought this was bad enough a minute ago, but thought hey I would get used to it but whats this with the after hundred message it starts on another page?

Don't like it and i'm usually ok with change.

mustrunmorenakedthroughthesnow · 15/12/2006 10:06

I'm just really hoping it gets put back. I liked mn over other sites because it was so easy to get round. Now its a pain to read.

nailpolish · 15/12/2006 10:06

i do the same as you mrsdoolittle and it seems mn is not designed for that any more

Posey · 15/12/2006 10:09

It looks like a school project.

ClementClarkeMoore · 15/12/2006 10:09

WHY FIX SOMETHING THAT AIN'T BROKEN?????

BOO-HOO!!!

I'm off!

ClementClarkeMoore · 15/12/2006 10:09

but before I go

I said that Posey!!!

SaintGeorge · 15/12/2006 10:09

I never thought I would say this but I actually prefer the php forum layout - and I HATE php forums.

munz · 15/12/2006 10:10

that the hell? no extra emotions, I pop to tescos for 5 minutes and look what tech goes and does! lol - nto sure on this! I loved it b4 cos it was sooo easy to use/straightforward.

least text box is bigger!

Mercy · 15/12/2006 10:11

The main problem though is that it's just downright messy now. If I had just come across MN I would find it completely impossible to navigate - it's all jumbled up, there is no logic in the way it's set up.

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 15/12/2006 10:11

I don't like this At All.

Mind you, it makes it harder to navigate, harder to read and harder on the eye - I'll get more housework done!

GlennCloseAsCruellaDeVille · 15/12/2006 10:12

I think the worst thing is splitting the threads I don't stayon any site with split threads because it's such a pain going backwards and forwards trying to find stuff..I just give up

I thought we were going to have an option to keep the threads in a single page?

Is there a reason for making these changes because I think it is now more like other sites in every way..and that is not a good thing

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 15/12/2006 10:12

yes I thought the splitting was functional only - but I did love NOT having it on here.

I'm not usually that fussed about change. think this will be OK with some tweaks - mostly definitely getting rid of all that dead space on the left hand side (can't be advertising as well can it, surely?!) I really think the left hand menu should go along the top

Mumbojumbo · 15/12/2006 10:13

I just got a bit of a shock with the new layout, but I quite like it. Will take some getting used to, but I'm not giving up!

munz · 15/12/2006 10:14

yes has towers given any reasons?

I don't like the netmums/other mumsonline type forums cos they're far too complicated for me to work out - I like simple easy to read and know where you are

Dottydotthehalls · 15/12/2006 10:14

i really miss the menu bar thing at the top - makes no sense to have it at the side because the side margin thing then squashes all the postings.

I hate split threads - will be glad if we can override that - it's the best thing about this forum - that you can read the whole thread in one go - flows much better.

(Not sure if I can cope with MN changing and Christmas all at the same time...)

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 15/12/2006 10:15

MrsJ I agree and then it will be easier to read as the threads can be spaced out more.

Posey · 15/12/2006 10:15

Ah great minds and all that...Its all moving so fast I can't keep up with all posts
