It's ok - change is good!

Hello all,
A little bit of advance notice that we are planning to roll out our new look (as per the current home page) to the talk pages tomorrow morning (tech willing). It's mostly cosmetic stuff plus a few very slight modifications to improve functionality - a nip here, a change of hue there. Anyway we hope you like it and do, of course, let us know if there's anything you object to.
Best,
Mumsnet Towers

sniff, sob

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 15/12/2006 10:16

No, I really hate this actually.

The massive stripe down the left-hand side is a waste of space.

Messages look cramped.

And I can't bear convos being split across pages and only a weeny bit of text squidged in the middle of the page.

As for the menus on talk - nope, don't like 'em.

7swansaswimmingup · 15/12/2006 10:16

oh god the split page is a pita! im logging off and hopefully come back to a clearer/non headachy/easier to read mumsnet

GlennCloseAsCruellaDeVille · 15/12/2006 10:16

the different colour blues do all clash with each other too..but that is the least of the bugbears

ClementClarkeMoore · 15/12/2006 10:18

With the old layout I could see a big list of active convos now all I can see is a list of about 10 threads all with the titles wrapped round using up precious space.

It's very very bad - sack the (inappropriately named) designer

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 15/12/2006 10:18

Nailpolish - I didn't think it was just me. I apply this to my other forum and it works just fine.

I had so much I wanted to post this morning. I was awake last night. But now I'm going to have to keep it all to myself.

I especially wanted to find an April Ante-natal thread from 2004 so that I could compare ds's progress with dd. I was even going to print it out. I'm so sorry I didn't do this before now.

I just can't seem to use the search facility it's dire.

As someone else said, maybe this is the push I needed to leave MN.

GlennCloseAsCruellaDeVille · 15/12/2006 10:18

well I shall go and come back later and see if it's got any better rather than steadily worse

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 15/12/2006 10:19

Tech is there no way you can move the menu bar and have it placed going across the top?? So you can widen the thread space & get rid of the squished look??

Please Please

tweetyfish · 15/12/2006 10:22

I think it's ok... will take getting used to, but it's ok. Xmas Smile

I actually quite like the stripe downthe left, it calms me....

My only gripe is that the colours of the thread name and the other bits after it are very similar - before the thread was royal blue and the rest black so the titles really stood out.

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 15/12/2006 10:23

Is it just me - but if I show this thread in "most recent last order" and then go to page 2, the order swaps back to most recent first, and shows the first few messages, not the last ones.

NotSoSilentMhamaiNight · 15/12/2006 10:24

YUK!!!!!!!!!!! PS I"M NOT SHOUTING!!!!!!!!!

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 15/12/2006 10:24

God, this is bloody awful.

Change it back - PLEASE!

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 15/12/2006 10:28

surely it's a bit extreme to say you might leave over this as many are doing

essentially it IS the same, just the bits moved around and it certainly needs tweaking to make it as user friendly as it was BUT the essence hasn't actually changed...

I think the main thing is to move the menu to the top instead of on the left, and people would get used to the drop down menus - they're not THAT radical!

the main parts of what makes Mumsnet Mumsnet are still there - it's not tickers and rent-a-forum-template yet

But if it stays squished up like this, with the distracting stripe down the side, then I will have no choice but to leave. I'm finding it too unclear and I'm having to log off now because of the headache it has given me.

TwinkleInSantasEye · 15/12/2006 10:33

Gosh, people here really don't like change do they? Actually I quite like the new look. I would agree though that Threads I'm On is not clear enough. But I don't agree that active conversations is harder to see - I think it's clearer now that they're not so squashed up. I don't think I'm too bothered about the split pages, but I'll wait and see. And I'm not too bothered about the stripe down the left hand side, though it is a waste of space I supppose, just pleeeeease get rid of that bloomin advert on the right hand side! Grrr!

UCM · 15/12/2006 10:33

Uh Oh, eyes hurting - sorry to whinge, but is giving me headache and I am going to have to come off. Have done 6 minutes.

peacemakeruk · 15/12/2006 10:33

Oh god it horrible, please bring back the old look, there was nothing wrong with things the way they were. Everything is hard work now, please bring back the old look or I'll be forced to bring this up in parliament and the courts for human justice and The Sun newspaper

WigWamBam · 15/12/2006 10:34

Sorry, but this is bloody awful. I can't say it any more nicely than that.

dublindee · 15/12/2006 10:35

Please revert to the old look PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I don't like it at all. It's too hard to read. I want the old mumsnet back!!!!!!!!!1

Twiglett · 15/12/2006 10:37

I'm sorry Tech and MNHQ but I've given it some time as Justine suggested and it really is PANTS!

you can't have an ad server on the right if you already have a left-hand margin .. design-wise it looks awful, functionally it reduces the legibility of the talk board

it's taking away the USP of Mumsnet and putting it in the realms of ALL the other parenting sites .. we're already losing quite a lot of the originiality and the interesting / funny threads and this just reinforces that its not the same place it was a year or so ago

I don't like it .. but my addiction has lessened anyway so its not going to ruin my life or anythgin

Tortington · 15/12/2006 10:37

i fucking hate it
