Heads up - Improvements to watched threads coming

Hullo everyone,

Just a heads-up: we wanted to let you know we've been working on some changes to improve the way our 'watched threads' option works, and we’re going to be releasing them today.

As you know, at the minute, if you want to receive an email notification when someone posts on a thread you yourself have posted on, you have to check the ‘watch this thread’ box when you post your message. From today, the box will be automatically checked.

Our thinking was that because, in the immortal words of Ferris Bueller, , it can be easy to miss replies to threads you’ve posted on, so it’d be useful to keep you updated as a matter of course.

Some crucial points:

  • Fear not: we absolutely won’t email every time someone posts after you have - and if you’re still looking at the thread, we won’t mail you at all.
  • You’ll only get ONE email after you’ve left the thread, to say it’s been updated.
  • If the idea of receiving any such emails makes you want to weep/tear out your hair/throw a toddler-style tantrum on the kitchen floor, DON’T PANIC: you can do a one-time-only opt out, by clicking on customise at the top of any thread, and unchecking ‘Auto-watch threads I start’ and/or ‘Auto-watch threads I post on’.
  • If you’d like to adopt a mix-and-match policy and be alerted to replies on some threads but not others, simply uncheck the auto-watch options in customise, and check the ‘watch this thread’ box underneath the message box on the thread you’re interested in.

Hope all of this makes sense, and sounds useful. Do shout if you've any questions (we know we can rely on you Wink)

Thank you all Flowers

OK this is going to mess me up. I used to be light green and OP was purple / lavender, now it is the other way around except instead of light green it is now this lurid cross between neon and olive. Bleurgh.

Sigh. At least they are different. I suppose I will get used to it.

Mine has changed on its own, the green is vile vile and then some. Please bring back the previous options we had.

magimedi · 06/08/2015 16:29

Now the colours have changed for everyone, Maryz, you can customise without fear.

I am *delighted8 to have two colours, but who chose that awful green?

MrsVamos · 06/08/2015 16:30

Hello all.

I've not changed anything, and I'm not going to. On mobile site, everything is as was.

The green sounds grim. Haven't dared venture onto laptop.

These changes do not sound good.

MistressMerryWeather · 06/08/2015 16:34

What's this?!

Green?!

Get it away!

Yaaaay! I'm much happier now (desktop)

OPs are in crappy green and I'm in pale pink.

Seriously unimpressed at the 78 threads I need to remove from my watch list though.

Especially as it takes an age to refresh/remove each one. I've still got 71 to go Hmm

SoupDragon · 06/08/2015 16:41

I went into customise and removed the automatic watch thing. I still have Classic.

magimedi · 06/08/2015 16:41

I am not a CUNT user - I use Mumsnet new as haven't been here as long as you & I have have been able to opt out of having threads added to my tiw list.

In fact I don't seem to be able to get to the page that tells you which version of MN you are using - where is it?

BlueKarou · 06/08/2015 16:43

Nooooo

My lovely, not quite so pastel colours have gone, and they're now all light and the wrong way round. My posts are supposed to be green and the OP's posts are supposed to be purple.

I don't like it. I don't like it at all.

cozietoesie · 06/08/2015 16:48

SoupDragon - I 'suspect' that if you're on New, they've removed the option to revert to Classic. I smell natural selection in play here. Smile

Maryz As far as I can see, you can opt out - but you have to do it in Customise, I think. Wink

MissDemelzaCarne · 06/08/2015 16:49

I don't like my new colours at all. Sad

WorraLiberty · 06/08/2015 16:51

I'm not sure how to find out if I'm on Classic or not.

I managed to remove the watch every thread thing, but not before I'd racked up 78 bloody convos.

BlueKarou · 06/08/2015 16:52

The one tiny silver lining is that I've thrown all caution to the wind and gone into customise to get rid of the auto-watch settings.

Am still not happy though. These are not the colours I wanted. Sad

RockyRoadster · 06/08/2015 16:53

I don't like the lurid green that the OP has changed to. I used to have a very nice silvery grey colour which stood out quite well enough without giving me eye strain. Please can you let me have that back again.

mathanxiety · 06/08/2015 16:56

Lurid is the word. I hate it.

I preferred the previous green.

cozietoesie · 06/08/2015 16:57

The difficulty with colours is that they're dependent on so many factors eg habit, vision, preference - even your particular screen. I don't think they're perfect yet but at least the current situation restores functionality. Most people will likely adjust to them very quickly I think.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/08/2015 16:58

I'm purple again! A lovely shade of pale purple. I weep with joy.

In gratitude I promise I will never customize again. Big fat lie

MrsVamos · 06/08/2015 17:02

I think HQ and Tech are sat drinking gin and munching biscuits, while simultaneously placing fingers in ears and hands over eyes going "la la la la la la la la we can't see or hear you all whinging la la la la la la la la".

Then cackling manically. Grin

FreshsatsumaforDd · 06/08/2015 17:04

Please, how do I make the green go away? Too dark and it hurts my eyes.

cozietoesie · 06/08/2015 17:05

Actually MrsVamos, I rather suspect that Tech and HQ are having a little 'froideur' at the moment. Wink

(Thinking organisationally, here. Grin)

MrsVamos · 06/08/2015 17:11

cozie Grin

diddl · 06/08/2015 17:12

I hate the green & want my colours back!
