Mumsnet mafia ??!!!

Am a really new poster to Mumsnet having just found out I am pregnant for the first time EDD June 1st, have been surfing the site and making a few posts but have been very surprised by the amount of vitriol in some of the posts on certain subjects, and am amazed about people outing other people and everyone seems to know everyone elses business - more than you might expect on a forum? How does that work?? Is there like a bunch of people who all live in the same road or something? Just wondering as on most forums I post on there are lots of people sharing views but it rarely gets that personal inn terms of people getting to know other people off line. Made me wonder if there is a Mumsnet mafia in place!! Makes me alightly concerned about posting my thoughts and feelings about the things that are happening to me and about how my privacy will be respected.

Well done charleyp... launch right in. No lurking. Good girl!

Welcome to the hotel Mumsnetornia.. you can check out but you can never leave.

Have a slice a lemon drizzle cake. Oh and when the threads get too controversial, grab some popcorn and take a seat!

Enid · 09/10/2006 18:20

I can never quite believe it when 'new posters' start these quite controversial threads

Philomena · 09/10/2006 18:46

Why's that Enid?

TwigTwoolett · 09/10/2006 18:50

"Do it for the family"

charlyp · 09/10/2006 18:56

whats not to believe?? as a new person you get to have a fresh perspective

didn't think this was very controversial

was just surprised by the degree of familiarity some people have with each other both on the forum and in RL, and there seem to be some people who have obviously been posting a long time who are quite forthright in their 'banter'. Not saying there is anything wrong with that

The thing is, the suspicions and undercurrents and bits of gossip surrounding those threads have been going on for months. It has reached a crescendo...not very nice but there it is. It had to happen. That much gossip, that many things to speculate about, an anonymous forum, it was always going to end like that.

The lesson is, if you're going to make stuff up, be better at it.

Did lots of newbies come after reading the Observer article this weekend, see Those Threads and think "blimmin' 'eck, this lot are nutters, let's scarper" d'you think ?

Enid · 10/10/2006 09:25

WelshBorisKarloff · 10/10/2006 09:50

bolleaux is charlyp a newbie

no way no way no way

CreepyJess · 10/10/2006 09:50

I think she's being tongue-in-cheek Charly And you are very provocative.. ... you will fit in well here..

Philomena · 10/10/2006 09:51

Good?

So you were never a newbie then? What an acheivement. Perhaps mumsnet ought to put a up a little sign saying new members are certainly not welcome. Then all the older members can argue between themselves and spontaenously combust with all the fighting.

Bah.

CreepyJess · 10/10/2006 09:52

LOL. At the very least she's been reincarnated into a new MN persona.. which is hardly uncommon is it! Let's face it, we're potentially ALL a load of double-crossing namechangers just pissing about in our lunch hours..

(I did say potentially...)

CreepyJess · 10/10/2006 09:54

FULL MOON ALERT (In absence, as yet, of handy, moon-cup symbol, to warn newbies and indeed oldies whether to be afraid, very afraid or very, very afraid...)

WelshBorisKarloff · 10/10/2006 09:55

Im not

ive always been boris

i HATE HATE those who leave on a bad note then come back under a different guise, making "cliquey" comments

grrrrr
