Mumsnet mafia ??!!!

Am a really new poster to Mumsnet having just found out I am pregnant for the first time EDD June 1st, have been surfing the site and making a few posts but have been very surprised by the amount of vitriol in some of the posts on certain subjects, and am amazed about people outing other people and everyone seems to know everyone elses business - more than you might expect on a forum? How does that work?? Is there like a bunch of people who all live in the same road or something? Just wondering as on most forums I post on there are lots of people sharing views but it rarely gets that personal inn terms of people getting to know other people off line. Made me wonder if there is a Mumsnet mafia in place!! Makes me alightly concerned about posting my thoughts and feelings about the things that are happening to me and about how my privacy will be respected.

Agree Fio. I was told a good many things off board, but, since many other things have come to light, I have NO idea what is true and what isnt. There is some general truths at the bottom of this, but it is so buried in bullshit its difficult to see whats what.

I'd love to say more, because I am really quite angry about having been systematically lied to, but, I fear it will only drag this out for another few days.

Can I also apologise for jumping on you so quickly the other day too?

OO, have CAT'd you.

yeahinaminute · 10/10/2006 13:34

Bugsy - Surely airing their shenanigans on MN before having the decency to tell their partners is cowardly - admittedly it is also sad and bloody miserable for all concerned - but nonetheless it could have been handled with some dignity and privacy if indeed it is true.

Anyway I've missed the full thread and am only going on what I can glean.

Bugsy2 · 10/10/2006 13:40

I didn't see all of it either yeahinaminute, but I feel reluctant to condemn. This was a situation born out of an online forum, with a car crash outing of the whole thing - if it is true.
To my mind that suggests loneliness & unhappiness and whether the behaviour is right or wrong, to my mind it can only be seen as a desperate cry for something: help, love, companionship. I really don't know, but definitely not the actions of people who are secure, happy & know where they are going.

yeahinaminute · 10/10/2006 13:48

True - But as you say we only know their truth - I was really hoping it was a BIG wind up - as the ramifications are too awful to contemplate

aww bless you Fio

expatinscotland · 10/10/2006 14:09

You know how you browse around a newsagent, and you see all those car-crash magazines w/cover features like 'I'm not his nan, he's my man!' or 'My sister's betrayal' and you think, 'Who the hell are these people?'

Now you know.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 10/10/2006 14:10

welcome to mn, charlyp, and best wishes for your pregnancy.

wb, I dont think you did anythign wrong. you only outed tamba under an anonymous internet name, not her real name.
she has behaved badly on and off mn. Rules are there for a reason, to stop innocent people getting hurt, not just to make the rest of us feel superior about not breaking them.

cocopopshater · 10/10/2006 15:16

and him too, of course, carlk.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 10/10/2006 15:58

I answered a call when I read your post, WB, and sniggered at the customer at the other end
