Mumsnet mafia ??!!!

Am a really new poster to Mumsnet having just found out I am pregnant for the first time EDD June 1st, have been surfing the site and making a few posts but have been very surprised by the amount of vitriol in some of the posts on certain subjects, and am amazed about people outing other people and everyone seems to know everyone elses business - more than you might expect on a forum? How does that work?? Is there like a bunch of people who all live in the same road or something? Just wondering as on most forums I post on there are lots of people sharing views but it rarely gets that personal inn terms of people getting to know other people off line. Made me wonder if there is a Mumsnet mafia in place!! Makes me alightly concerned about posting my thoughts and feelings about the things that are happening to me and about how my privacy will be respected.

It was a perfectly normal MN full moon thread.

sammy who are u hon, i'be been trying to work out your normal name! I don't like the seasonal name changers!

JessaJackOLantern · 09/10/2006 16:45

Suspect you have unexpectedly wandered into middle of one of the not-exactly-regular-but-still-frequent-enough mumsnet drama's...I missed this latest one [frustrated]...

will bear that in mind

note to self: refrain from sharing info about lovechild, extra maritals, cross dressing dh, affair with boss and job on lesbian chat line, especially around full moon

anorak · 09/10/2006 16:56

charlyp if you want to discuss something really personal change your nickname temporarily - but don't forget and post on it in your normal name!

I thought it was just controversial things like, affairs, abortion, that were to be avoided. dropped grapes?? for the love of god .....

i suppose that some of the women posting are likely to be slightly hormonal ...

dropped stolen grapes ..... there isn't an emoticon for baffled is there?

I clearly have

alot to learn about motherhood (was the end of my sentance before I prematurely posted!)

OP posts:
CreepyJess · 09/10/2006 17:14

Im sure you're great at motherhood Charly.. it's just Mumsnet and it's little quirks that takes some getting to know.. stick around and all will become clear.. welcome

charlyp · 09/10/2006 17:18

Thanks Creepy - hope I will be, as yet have ZERO experience of motherhood unless you count the 2 weeks I have been pregnant as motherhood, and since during that period I have mainly been in a state of denial and confusion I am not sure I could yet be classified as good

But I am sure it will come in time!

(god that charlyp, moaning again)

Mercy · 09/10/2006 17:44

Charleyp, hello, welcome and congratulations!

Haven't read all the thread but I get the gist. Unfortunately you joined when some unpleasant stuff was happening, it happens once in a blue/full moon. It's not the norm tbh.

Have you joined the thread for mums expecting in June? (I assume there is one - if not you can start it!). I'm sure you will find many mums/to be you can relate to there.
