Slow site-loading times

Hello

We just wanted to say - many apologies for the slow page-loading times and/or connection problems that lots of you have been experiencing over the last few days.

We've had a look at server performance at our end and there have definitely been some periods when it's been very slow to respond.

We're on it and trying to work out a fix. Wine and/or Brew and/or Cake in the meantime - please bear with us.

Thank you

I can't get on MN using my android phone app. Is there something wrong with that too?

onestepbeyond · 24/05/2014 18:15

Here we go again - reeeaalllllly slow on mobile.

footflapper · 24/05/2014 18:19

When I use my android phone I keep getting.. ''Security Alert: The Name of the Security Certificate Is Invalid or Does Not Match the Name of the Site'' Confused

footflapper · 24/05/2014 18:20

Oh, & when I try to post on a thread the post message button turns grey & it freezes (when on phone)

Sparklingbrook · 24/05/2014 18:37

It's starting to make me twitchy. I am glad there's no BGT tonight. By the time I get my comment on the thread the act would have been buzzed off.

ProfYaffle · 24/05/2014 18:45

It's driving me bonkers now, it's fine for ages then suddenly drops right out.

Sparklingbrook · 24/05/2014 18:47

Even though the spinny thingy doesn't stop, if you press the back button then go back in again it has posted. Confused

ProfYaffle · 24/05/2014 18:49

I'm on a laptop btw, not the app/mobile site. I find if I close the tab with MN on it and open it up again it's usually (but not always) OK.

PedantMarina · 24/05/2014 19:36

Yeah me too. Phone app (android) won't work. Have even tried un&re-installing. Doing this via the phone browser but want my app back! >pouts

Ainmnua · 24/05/2014 20:43

Same on the desktop site on an iPad via Safari, it's painfully slow.

ballsballsballs · 24/05/2014 20:46

I got an error 502 bad gateway earlier. 'sup MNHQ?

Bloody bloody bloody annoying! What the hell else am u supposed to do whilst the champion league final is on?!

FreeButtonBee · 24/05/2014 20:50

Yes I am getting close to giving up and just shagging my husband out of boredom. I have 15 mo twins; if I end up preggers, MN, I am coming after you

IonaMumsnet · 24/05/2014 21:00

If there is a massive spike in the birth rate in 40 weeks' time, we will take full responsibility*

Sorry again, everyone. We're still working on it. We're having problems with slow server response times, as you know (that elastic band and clothes peg we rigged up didn't cut it apparently). Please do bear with us a bit longer.

*we won't

RowanMumsnet · 24/05/2014 22:24

Hello - just an update/more lengthy explanation.

We do get that this is horribly annoying. Our tech team have worked like stink to isolate the various recent code changes and are ready to revert them one by one, but we just ran out of time before the weekend started, and it's a fairly big job for the skeleton weekend staff. That said we DO know it's got a bit beyond a joke now, so we're working to see if we can make these changes over the weekend - we'll be back soon to let you know how it's going.

Re the social sharing buttons (and remember that you can turn those off via Customise if you don't like 'em or they're being slow to load): we're interrogating everything that we've done recently, but the timings on the social buttons don't quite add up. The site first started really slowing down on the 19th, but the sharing buttons (which had been working without difficulty on several big-traffic topics for a long time) were rolled out side-wide a few days before that, and nothing bad happened to our servers until several days later. So it does seem unlikely - but as we said, we're not completely ruling anything out for now.

It couldn't be a long lasting DoS?

CointreauVersial · 25/05/2014 00:35

I've actually gone grey just waiting for this thread to load.

And the Android app is still up the swannee....

Keep burning that midnight oil, techies.

Sparklingbrook · 25/05/2014 10:10

It's all good this morning.

iseenodust · 25/05/2014 11:29

I often get an error message from IE saying 'MN page not running due to long script do I want to turn off the script?'.

LineRunner · 25/05/2014 11:54

I blame UKIP.

QuintessentiallyQS · 25/05/2014 13:08

Yes, this is the Nigel Farrage factor at work.

ballsballsballs · 25/05/2014 13:15

I was timed out earlier when I tried to access TIO.

FreeButtonBee · 25/05/2014 14:12

Hmm, turning off the social media seems to help a but actually. Although it has been better today than yesterday. You will be pleased to know I didn't shag my husband and instead had a bath and went to bed early.

AnyaKnowIt · 25/05/2014 14:23

I'm still getting security warning, anyone else?
