WHY have you got rid of All On One Page?

I HATE pages.

Please give them back!

OP posts:
FunnyFestiveTableRunner · 11/12/2013 10:05

What are bookmarks? I have always just clicked on the last posts on Threads I'm On. Now it takes me to the start of the page. Plus there is only the option of 500 posts at a time rather than 100 as I had before. It is all very annoying!

SootikinAndSweep · 11/12/2013 10:06

I can't see a bookmark option. Am I being a bit thick?

DingDongUriGelleryOnHigh · 11/12/2013 10:10

Oh Christ, I didnt know about this, I just want to read the full bloody thread.

I'm too old busy to be bookmarking and flipping threads and whatever else you all do..
I'm very nearly contemplating considering flouncing.

FunnyFestiveTableRunner · 11/12/2013 10:10

I can't either Sootikin just had a look Confused

FairPhyllis · 11/12/2013 10:11

I really don't like this. It's going to change the whole way I use the site. I can't go to the end of a thread direct from Threads I'm On or Threads I'm Watching anymore.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 10:13

You can only use bookmarks if you aren't using MN Classic.

Which makes me suspicious as to HQ's real motives. To move everyone off Classic? Because we all know if you keep a tab open, don't refresh, and have it all in one page you can read a thread even after it's been deleted?

And that HQ works on the Jesuit principal of 'easier to ask forgiveness than permission'. And I'm not saying you need to ask our permission before making changes.

But to implement those changes at 530ish pm and then ignore complaints overnight?

If this pages thing stays, it will make me leave. I hate pages. Always. On all sites and never use them.

And plenty of sites let you view all in one page. Including ones with lots of pictures.

So...added pictures...took away pages.

Huh.

bruffin · 11/12/2013 10:14

There isnt a bookmark on the pc version only on my mobile

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 10:14

Although I will say, I just came to the end of this thread via TIO and clicking the last poster's name. So I am not sure when I'll lose that ability...

custardo · 11/12/2013 10:14

I don't like this either

you should have a option which reads...

SootikinAndSweep · 11/12/2013 10:14

I'm on MN New and I don't have bookmarks.

bruffin · 11/12/2013 10:15

i have found them, it only comes up on the right hand side when you hover over a post.

Huitre · 11/12/2013 10:15

Hover over the right hand bottom area of any post, Sootikin. A little blue button appears.

FairPhyllis · 11/12/2013 10:16

TEE You lose that ability when the thread is over 500 posts long - which is precisely when it's most useful ...

Blimey

Has absolutely never occurred to us to try to 'move everyone off Classic', whatever you can or cannot do with deleted threads

You're all absolutely right that we should have warned you about this - totally our fault. (And Tech did warn us about it so we don't even have that excuse.)

We are trying to warn you in advance about major changes (as we did about the pictures, and about the recent introduction of notification emails on Threads I'm Watching).

But we didn't for this

We should have

We're extremely sorry

Nope, hovering like Tarquin's mummy but no button is appearing.

Any ideas Rowan?

FairPhyllis · 11/12/2013 10:22

So now if you want to go to the end of a thread in TIO, you have to both remember to bookmark the end of the thread before you leave as well as using TIO. So one simple action has been replaced by two - that's just poor design.

I also like reading threads as one page - I only ever use a desktop browser on a massive screen. Having it all chopped up into pages makes no sense for me.

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 10:23

Right then

The 'Threads I'm On' and 'Threads I'm Watching' links issue is being fixed and we'll release that soon.

Could y'all do us a favour and click on this thread and tell us what's the most recent post you see? Because I (Windows 7 PC, Chrome, desktop site) get taken straight to the most recent post, despite it being on two pages.

If this doesn't happen for you could you tell us your operating system, platform (desktop/mobile site) and browser (IE, Chrome, whatever) please?

Or am I being fick and have misunderstood the issue

Huitre · 11/12/2013 10:23

Well, this is interesting.

I just switched to New and found that I could click on a particular post in Threads I'm Watching. But ONLY if I had already bookmarked a post in that thread - old long threads where I hadn't bookmarked a post just took me to the top of page 1 when I clicked on a post near the end of the thread. This persisted when I switched back to Classic (in an effort to work out exactly what was annoying me so much about New). So even though bookmarks don't exist in Classic, they still affect thread behaviour.

Huitre · 11/12/2013 10:24

Could y'all do us a favour and click on this thread and tell us what's the most recent post you see?

Top post. But it's a thread I have never bookmarked. See my last post.

OS Windows 8, Chrome, desktop site.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 10:25

You're always sorry, Rowan. Every.Single.Time. Sorry, but you're (the royal we on all of this, not your personally, Rowan) like my four year old. But I expect him to not learn from his mistakes.

Also? Pages on the Mobile site? Impossible.

So you just lost about 90% of my hits.

I've actually moved from my phone to my PC to type my responses to this thread whereas I would normally be using my phone or tablet during the day.

Mckayz · 11/12/2013 10:25

Rowan, that only works if you have posted on that thread surely? I haven't so get taken to the first post.

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 10:26

@Huitre

Could y'all do us a favour and click on this thread and tell us what's the most recent post you see?

Top post. But it's a thread I have never bookmarked. See my last post.

OS Windows 8, Chrome, desktop site.

Thanks huitre

The TIO/TIW links will be fixed v soon (as in today), promise

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 10:26

First post for me Rowan. But I have never bookmarked that thread, to my knowledge.

PC, Firefox, desktop site.
