Do you want to run a Mumsnet Local site?

EmmaMumsnet · 04/09/2013 11:19

Do you need a new packet of biscuits project to perk up Autumn and beyond?

Mumsnet Local is expanding all the time and we are looking for new Local Editors. Our current team of brilliant and dedicated Local Editors make sure their site is full of relevant listings, encouraging local Mumsnetters and businesses to post listings and reviews on the site and filling the gaps, so it's a useful community hub for local parents.

They also oversee Local Ambassadors, who are busy organising meet-ups all over the country, as well as encouraging community links locally. What Local Editors can't do is see anyone's private Mumsnet membership details or posting history (sorry, only the Community team are allowed in there).

We don't expect Local Editors to do all this for free; Local Editors get revenue from Local advertising and offers.

We know we're not quite there with Local yet, but we're moving along, and we're on the brink of launching some whizzy new stuff that Tech's been putting together in a bunker all summer.

We've pasted a list of the sites needing Local Editors below so if you're interested in finding out more please email [email protected] with 'interested in becoming a Local Editor' in the subject field.

Some of the sites are still a bit empty, so take a look around Kent to see what a site looks like when it's populated with meet-ups, listings, Local Talk, Offers, etc:

Ideally you would have had some experience in a media, advertising sales or organisational role and be able to spell, but bags of enthusiasm and strong community links can go a long way to making a local site a success.

I got zero reply too!

Kinect · 14/09/2013 17:43

I sent a brief email requesting information, and have heard nothing back tooSad

confuddledDOTcom · 14/09/2013 19:42

Glad I'm not the only one waiting for a response.

MadamTwoSwords · 15/09/2013 13:08

I've signed up for Peterborough,

received my agreement and handbook etc.

I'm guessing they are pretty busy with the response so I would say hang on for a bit, all info has been from Emma so if it's just her doing it she may be a bit swamped!

Titsalinabumsquash · 16/09/2013 10:51

I've been given West Sussex. I have the handbook and the Twitter details and the webmail login.

I don't have the Facebook stuff or the ability to see the editor chat topic on here.

What I want to do is to fill up the listings for days out/clubs etc but I'm not sure if I need any extra details to get me actually into the West Sussex site as an editor to add things and edit things, I'm not sure if I add stuff as a regular user of Mn local or not? There was no explanation in the handbook.

Ivan imagine they're busy with all the new editors and stuff.

NumTumDeDum · 16/09/2013 11:48

Looks like I'm just along the coast from you Titsallinabumsquash. Haven't got my handbook yet, but have made a start compiling listings and events.

mignonette · 16/09/2013 12:11

Might it not be best to wait for the training day?

I have my own 'action plan' and have several advertisers lined up subject to T&C but assume also that they have to be 'approved' by MNHQ as suitable for the company on the whole.

I have also arranged to meet up w/ some local organisations about 1) what they do and 2) what they would like the site to 'do' and am arranging ways of using print media to publicise Local Suffolk but again, think it advisable to wait for training.

LocalEditorWalsall · 16/09/2013 21:55

I've just got myself all signed up, although I'm finding the Mumsnet email account rather confusing - is it normal that I can see everyone's emails? Can I not filter this in some way so I can only see my own?

parabelle · 16/09/2013 21:57

I've not heard anything either, should I apply again?

mignonette · 16/09/2013 21:58

I'm a tad baffled by some of it and fairly aghast that I have to sign up to Facebook- yuck. I'll tackle it tomorrow.

LocalEditorWalsall · 16/09/2013 22:09

Oh dear, I think I'm confused, all of these 231 emails are MINE Blush

mignonette · 16/09/2013 22:19

Am thinking this is going to be a steep learning curve LeWalsall for us Grin....

LocalEditorWalsall · 16/09/2013 22:33

Well I DID say I wanted a challenge mignonette, certainly got that Confused

mignonette · 16/09/2013 22:48

It'll be okay. you can always Pm/email me and maybe we can muddle through together.

LocalEditorWalsall · 16/09/2013 22:56

Thanks I may just do that. I just managed to import my email to run through Windows Live Mail so I no longer had to use that horrific interface, it hurt my eyes. So alas, there is progress. We can do this!

mignonette · 16/09/2013 23:01

That's more than I can do. Will make a start tomorrow and see what havoc and destruction I can rain down on poor old Suffolk!

PlumSykes · 19/09/2013 10:41

Has anyone been given Cardiff?

NumTumDeDum · 19/09/2013 13:19

Bloody Royal Mail. Sent my agreement over a week ago and it hasn't arrived. Plan b involves storming dh's workplace and using their scanner.

mignonette · 19/09/2013 13:21

I sent mine by recorded Num because so many of my letters go missing.

Loupee · 20/09/2013 16:59

I received my offer to be an editor today will get the agreement in the most on Monday. Quite excited!

Kinect · 20/09/2013 22:55

Those of you that have received an offer, did you send a CV / more formal application?

I just sent a very brief email asking for more information and was going to send a more comprehensive, detailed submission based on the information Mumsnet sent Confused

mignonette · 20/09/2013 23:57

I kept it pretty brief Kinect. No need for anything formal.

evanscrittenmum · 23/09/2013 12:27

I've just e-mailed regarding the Pembrokeshire site. We have lots to do in Pembrokeshire but only two theme parks listed on our local site. I would love to get it up and running. :-) Fingers crossed1

NumTumDeDum · 23/09/2013 19:51

Yay! Have handbook and to do list. Now to get my insomniac ds to go to sleep so I can read it!

evanscrittenmum · 24/09/2013 12:13

Exciting! Is there a date for the training day?
