Do you want to run a Mumsnet Local site?

EmmaMumsnet · 04/09/2013 11:19

Do you need a new packet of biscuits project to perk up Autumn and beyond?

Mumsnet Local is expanding all the time and we are looking for new Local Editors. Our current team of brilliant and dedicated Local Editors make sure their site is full of relevant listings, encouraging local Mumsnetters and businesses to post listings and reviews on the site and filling the gaps, so it's a useful community hub for local parents.

They also oversee Local Ambassadors, who are busy organising meet-ups all over the country, as well as encouraging community links locally. What Local Editors can't do is see anyone's private Mumsnet membership details or posting history (sorry, only the Community team are allowed in there).

We don't expect Local Editors to do all this for free; Local Editors get revenue from Local advertising and offers.

We know we're not quite there with Local yet, but we're moving along, and we're on the brink of launching some whizzy new stuff that Tech's been putting together in a bunker all summer.

We've pasted a list of the sites needing Local Editors below so if you're interested in finding out more please email [email protected] with 'interested in becoming a Local Editor' in the subject field.

Some of the sites are still a bit empty, so take a look around Kent to see what a site looks like when it's populated with meet-ups, listings, Local Talk, Offers, etc:

Ideally you would have had some experience in a media, advertising sales or organisational role and be able to spell, but bags of enthusiasm and strong community links can go a long way to making a local site a success.

I should have also said, please state which area you're interested in when you send the email!

EmmaMumsnet · 04/09/2013 12:51

@janx

I would be interested but can't see Stoke Newington so guess you are sorted for there

Hi Janx, Stoke Newington comes within the Hackney site and yes, we've got someone there at the moment.

@AnneEyhtMeyer

Hmmm... this thread has just prompted me to check out my local site.

Despite supposedly being "active" there is hardly anything there. According to MN local, despite living in a largish city there are no children's centres, no private schools, only one soft play and one park and no local attractions. Hmm

Not exactly inspiring is it? I think MN is flogging a dead horse with this one.

Erm, there is no flogging of any sort AnneEyhtMeyer Wink Grin - Local is in its infancy but growing all of the time.

It may be that your area doesn't have an Editor as yet or that folks haven't uploaded the listings for those specifics, please do feel free to add any, it's a huge team effort and it would be great if you'd add local-to-you info in.

RebeccaMumsnet · 04/09/2013 13:45

@AnneEyhtMeyer

There is an editor, if that is the person whose posts are coloured in the local threads.

Maybe flogging would make it more popular? Grin

@Titsalinabumsquash

I'm very excited! West Sussex local here I come, thank you Emma :)

Pleasure Tits, and for those I haven't emailed yet, I'm on it tomorrow morning

EmmaMumsnet · 04/09/2013 20:28

Ooh, I've just glanced at my inbox? I'm going to have a busy day tomorrow Grin

EmmaMumsnet · 05/09/2013 07:26

@mignonette

Mine is in the post. It'll give you a few days breathing space Emma...Am greatly looking forward to the challenge.

I think you might have just broken the record for Local's fastest paperwork turnaround Wink

EmmaMumsnet · 05/09/2013 13:55

@BinarySolo

I just emailed for Kirklees but the email bounced back saying there was a permenant error. Sad

Help please! Do you still need someone for Kirklees?

That's weird, I'll pm you.

RebeccaMumsnet · 05/09/2013 15:55

@IsotopeMe

I applied aaaages ago to be an ambassador. No reply, then followed it up, told it was all good, then never heard anything again! :s

Hi IsotopeMe,

I'll PM you now...

RebeccaMumsnet · 06/09/2013 11:04

Hi all,

Thanks for all of the lovely emails, please do keep them coming.

Big apologies to those who mailed previously and didn't hear back, please do mail again and we will take a look.

EmmaMumsnet · 06/09/2013 12:10

@RememberingMyPFEs

I found Somerset in the end - it doesn't show up in search... I'd like to be an Ambassador for Nailsea if possible?

That's great, thanks so much. I can see Isabella's already set you up so let us know how you get on.

EmmaMumsnet · 06/09/2013 12:15

@cheapskatemum

Oi mignonette, I wanted Suffolk! How near Ipswich are you?

Ipswich is a separate site, so do email about that if you haven't already!

EmmaMumsnet · 06/09/2013 12:17

@ballstoit

I emailed about 6 months ago when there was a thread and never had a reply...am hoping I might get one this time Wink

Darn it, thought we'd combed the inbox for every potential Local Ed! Sorry Balls, we'll take a look!

EmmaMumsnet · 06/09/2013 12:18

@VixStarr

Out of interest where does Hastings fit? Surely not under Kent/West Sussex?

Hastings is within East Sussex, which already has a Local Editor

EmmaMumsnet · 06/09/2013 12:24

For anyone who has emailed, don't worry if you haven't heard back yet. We've had lots of responses, which is brilliant, so we'll get to each and every one within the next week. As Becky said, keep them coming!
