Do you want to run a Mumsnet Local site?

EmmaMumsnet · 04/09/2013 11:19

Do you need a new packet of biscuits project to perk up Autumn and beyond?

Mumsnet Local is expanding all the time and we are looking for new Local Editors. Our current team of brilliant and dedicated Local Editors make sure their site is full of relevant listings, encouraging local Mumsnetters and businesses to post listings and reviews on the site and filling the gaps, so it's a useful community hub for local parents.

They also oversee Local Ambassadors, who are busy organising meet-ups all over the country, as well as encouraging community links locally. What Local Editors can't do is see anyone's private Mumsnet membership details or posting history (sorry, only the Community team are allowed in there).

We don't expect Local Editors to do all this for free; Local Editors get revenue from Local advertising and offers.

We know we're not quite there with Local yet, but we're moving along, and we're on the brink of launching some whizzy new stuff that Tech's been putting together in a bunker all summer.

We've pasted a list of the sites needing Local Editors below so if you're interested in finding out more please email [email protected] with 'interested in becoming a Local Editor' in the subject field.

Some of the sites are still a bit empty, so take a look around Kent to see what a site looks like when it's populated with meet-ups, listings, Local Talk, Offers, etc:

Ideally you would have had some experience in a media, advertising sales or organisational role and be able to spell, but bags of enthusiasm and strong community links can go a long way to making a local site a success.

RubyRR · 04/09/2013 23:07

I've just sent an email offering to move to an area on the list, I could combine rightmove and mumsnetting= perfect

LaLaLeni · 05/09/2013 00:14

Damn, the area I just moved from is there but not my new area - and I used to be a journalist! (Meaning I can spell...) Hmm

NomDeClavier · 05/09/2013 00:21

Hmmmm, how locally does one actually have to live to be a local editor?

Portofino · 05/09/2013 06:40

I do! If you can bring our Brussels site back!

EmmaMumsnet · 05/09/2013 07:26

I think you might have just broken the record for Local's fastest paperwork turnaround Wink

Mine was emailed yesterday evening :)

mignonette · 05/09/2013 09:37

Emma

Have been looking for a change of direction and toying w/ the idea of quitting my job. Not that I think this will provide a 'living' per se but definitely looking for a new challenge that will allow me to have more time to write too.

And have a life.

BinarySolo · 05/09/2013 13:47

I just emailed for Kirklees but the email bounced back saying there was a permenant error. Sad

Help please! Do you still need someone for Kirklees?

IsotopeMe · 05/09/2013 15:49

I applied aaaages ago to be an ambassador. No reply, then followed it up, told it was all good, then never heard anything again! :s

RememberingMyPFEs · 05/09/2013 16:05

I would like to see one for Somerset/ North Somerset and would volunteer for this. I can't see it in the list but haven't been able to find one either...

RememberingMyPFEs · 05/09/2013 16:37

I found Somerset in the end - it doesn't show up in search...
I'd like to be an Ambassador for Nailsea if possible?

jackjacksmummy · 05/09/2013 17:09

I'll share Brighton with you mrshelsbels

jackjacksmummy · 05/09/2013 17:42

Scrap that - I am probably too busy to offer full commitment! Uni course, 2 jobs & 3 kids! Sorry - wouldn't want to take it on and not be able to offer what's needed x

Thanks Emma, I've emailed you.

littlemrssleepy · 05/09/2013 18:18

Have a look at www.saveoursanity.org a local site for huntingdon. This is what a local site should look like but it's a lot of work and it needs to be run at this very local level to be of any use.

iWillDoItInAMinute · 05/09/2013 19:20

Made enquiries re Bath, haven't heard anything. Does that mean its taken?

KoalaFace · 05/09/2013 19:29

I've asked about Chorley but not heard anything either. Maybe that does mean they are already taken?

cheapskatemum · 05/09/2013 21:36

Oi mignonette, I wanted Suffolk! How near Ipswich are you?
