The new Navigation Bar (at t'top): the "official" thread

323 replies

HelenMumsnet · 05/06/2013 10:21

Hello. There are ruddy millions quite a few threads in Site Stuff at the mo about changes/glitches/weirdy stuff related to the release of our new Navigation Bar (the big blue bar at the top of the page that helps you find all the various bits of Mumsnet).

So, for clarity's (and sanity's) sake, we're starting this thread to keep everything in one place - and have just one thread where you tell us what's not working for you and where we update you on what we've fixed/are fixing etc etc.

Right then...

A couple of quick answers/updates for you right now:

  • The PM Inbox flag/blog/"you've got a PM" icon is now back. Apols for having inadvertently made it disappear.

  • The jumpiness/flickiness of the Nav Bar in general: we're working on sorting this now - and hope to have a fix released by tomorrow.

  • MyMumsnet: this will reappear on the Nav Bar at some point in the next three days or so. In the meantime, you can find MyMumsnet here.

  • Keep me logged in. We're looking into this - and will update you soon.

Any more Qs/probs/moans/peans of praise (hopeful), do please post them here.

Don't the links for Active etc appear on the screen anyway? At the top under "mumsnet talk"

BehindLockNumberNine · 09/06/2013 09:15

Not when you first log into mn and arrive at the homepage. I don't have mine permanently open. Unless it has always been like that and I have not noticed, in which case ignore me Blush

SoupDragon · 09/06/2013 09:25

Oh, I always go straight into active conversations and stay there :)

AnneEyhtMeyer · 09/06/2013 16:18

The offers bit is hiding by the Mumsnet Talk bit for me too now, and I'm on Firefox.

Shiraztastic · 09/06/2013 20:02

Feedback: I do not mind the images for money or news. The ones featuring humans or animals are all awful. Yes even the baby and his poo face

@fuckwittery

I found it tricky and less obvious to find the "my registration page" when I last namechanged looked, as I'm sure I used to get to that from the home page too

Hello. Hello. And don't worry: the My Mumsnet link got dropped by accident (see previous posts from us) and will be back shortly.

@AnneEyhtMeyer

The offers bit is hiding by the Mumsnet Talk bit for me too now, and I'm on Firefox.

We're hoping all the hiding Offers thingies will be fixed today.

There is a link to Active on the main homepage. If you look at the Mumsnet Talk (discussions of the day) box on the right: at the bottom of it, there are three links - and the middle one is to Active.

@BehindLockNumberNine

I don't know if this has already been said, or if I am missing the point spectacularly (wouldn't be the first time) but with the old bar I could hover over the word TALK and the options for Active, I'm On, I'm Watching etc would appear. With this bar I cannot do that. I have to press TALK, wait for it to load and THEN select Active, I'm On etc

So for me this is NOT an improvement.

Sorry to have disappointed you, BehindLockNumberNine. There are links to Active elsewhere on the home page (see previous post) and we're working on putting a link in to I'm On, too.

@Valpollicella

Just fyi MNHQ, I'm not sure if you've already tried to fix it....but the log in thing still stays checked, even though earlier I unchecked it.

I logged out and then just logged in again and it was still ticked

I'm not sure that fix has been released yet, actually. I'll check for you now.

HelenM, I'm just posting on here in the hope of a personal response as that seems to be your ChoreOfTheDay.

THIS IS AN AUTO RESPONSE

HelenMumsnet is all out of personal responses for the day.
However, your post is important to us, please do try again later.

UniqueAndAmazing · 10/06/2013 16:21

I CBA to read the latest replies (sorry Blush ) but noticed earlier today that there was a random word (might have been Offers) in white over the bit that says "threads I'm on" in TIO.
It's a proper hoverer - comes up bold when you hover, but it was right on top of the link I wanted to click....
Confused

has this been noted/fixed? or do I have to tell you about it now?

UniqueAndAmazing · 10/06/2013 16:21

oh yes, you've seen and sorted.
sorry.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 10/06/2013 16:39

I'm with BehindLockNumberNine
I don't like hunting around to find the links for active, threads I'm on etc. Why can't they be in a drop down?
It makes it...well messy and unorganised and I like neatness and perfection

Today my talk button has jumped up to sit on top of the blue bar with the other topics on. Is it supposed to be there or is it just being unreasonable? that's messy too as the words don't line up now and it looks odd

RedKites · 10/06/2013 16:48

I don't know if this relates to a fix being released? But just now I tried to deliberately trigger one of the menus at the top, and no matter how much I hover over or click on them, they won't appear. I'm using Firefox, and it was working in this browser on this laptop previously.

HelenMumsnet · 10/06/2013 17:21

Ok, so now we should have...

  • My Mumsnet back. Ta da!

  • A released fix for the Chrome/IE9 overlapping letters/Offers thingie

Hurrah!

Do tell me how much you love it

Give me a mo to, um, find the sticky tape...
