The new Navigation Bar (at t'top): the "official" thread

HelenMumsnet · 05/06/2013 10:21

Hello. There are ruddy millions quite a few threads in Site Stuff at the mo about changes/glitches/weirdy stuff related to the release of our new Navigation Bar (the big blue bar at the top of the page that helps you find all the various bits of Mumsnet).

So, for clarity's (and sanity's) sake, we're starting this thread to keep everything in one place - and have just one thread where you tell us what's not working for you and where we update you on what we've fixed/are fixing etc etc.

Right then...

A couple of quick answers/updates for you right now:

  • The PM Inbox flag/blog/"you've got a PM" icon is now back. Apols for having inadvertently made it disappear.

  • The jumpiness/flickiness of the Nav Bar in general: we're working on sorting this now - and hope to have a fix released by tomorrow.

  • MyMumsnet: this will reappear on the Nav Bar at some point in the next three days or so. In the meantime, you can find MyMumsnet here.

  • Keep me logged in. We're looking into this - and will update you soon.

Any more Qs/probs/moans/peans of praise (hopeful), do please post them here.

Sorry, not read the whole thread, and been away for a few days, but my pennysworth:

can we please have a drop down box under talk to get to active/threads I'm on/watching etc

Can we shrink the font of the drop down boxes a size or two?

And, think this started happening before the site changes, but any chance of stopping the adverts all down the sides splitting themselves so that at a minimum the left hand side is first, not second!

Sorry for the extra work!

FruOla · 10/06/2013 18:38

Ooooooh, it's all changed again Helen.
How exciting; is this to keep us all on our collective toes? Grin

SoupDragon · 10/06/2013 18:42

Olivia, Shouldn't you play Chaos a 20 minute flute solo twice instead?

OliviaMMumsnet · 10/06/2013 19:02

BIWI · 10/06/2013 19:13

That's spooky. When you click on the My Mumsnet dropdown menu, it knows my RL name! Shock

SoupDragon · 10/06/2013 19:43

Mine says "hello Supreme Commander" :)

mummylin2495 · 10/06/2013 20:16

I just saw that biwi, it's a nice touch and I like it

BIWI · 10/06/2013 22:21

OvO · 10/06/2013 23:16

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 10/06/2013 23:40

ChaosTrulyReigns · 11/06/2013 00:00

Oh ho ho ho.

You lot with you jolly japes.

Hmm

I've just gone to check if my name is on there

And it is.

SoupDragon · 11/06/2013 07:32

It has capitals doesn't it? Confused

BIWI · 11/06/2013 08:47

That's why MN has kept falling over recently, Chaos, because they were re-writing the software specially for you.

UniqueAndAmazing · 11/06/2013 13:32

"When you click on the My Mumsnet dropdown menu, it knows my RL name! "

I do not like that

AT ALL

I am nickel.
nickel
NICKEL!

that's my proper name on MN, this is not Netmums, i want MNHQ to call me nickel.
not Andrea.
Andrea is who I am in the flesh.

mistlethrush · 11/06/2013 13:48

I agree Nickel - even if you are also unique AND amazing.

UniqueAndAmazing · 11/06/2013 13:57

Grin (i have my proper name on my hoverer)

mistlethrush · 11/06/2013 14:47

I've seen that Nickel... very posh. Not sure how you do it, but as I've not name changed in the Blushyears I've been here I clearly don't really need to know! I still don't want to be welcomed by my RL name when I've got the MN page up though...

topsyandturvy · 11/06/2013 15:16

I would like to see the logout button instantly clickable on the menu bar without having to go into my mumsnet dropdown, so if someone wants to logout in a hurry for some reason they can do so

topsyandturvy · 11/06/2013 15:19

also, I have lost track on this thread as to whether this is going to be fixed, but I dont seem to have a clickable list of previous usernames to login with

and the remember me checkbox still seems to be defaulting to ticked

thank you

UniqueAndAmazing · 11/06/2013 15:47

mistel - you do it in Profile - there's a box marked "status description"

I would never think of doing such a different name change without it.

Hello topsyandturvy. If you go into My Mumsnet/My account, you'll see "your username history" next to your username. Click on that to see your previous usernames.

The checkbox thing is coming. It's next on the list.

UniqueAndAmazing - You can change what comes after the "Hello" on the drop-down box by going to "My Account" and changing what's in the "About You" section.

I did get confused because on my drop-down box it said "Hello Boss" - which is an extremely accurate description, but I wondered how on earth Mumsnet knew that. But then I remembered that that's what I had put as my name.

UniqueAndAmazing · 11/06/2013 17:37

oooh, can you Shock

oooooooooooohhhhhhhh

UniqueAndAmazing · 11/06/2013 17:39

MNHQ - STOP PISSING ABOUT!!!!!

I've just gone into my account section and instead of my email, it's got my frigging nickname!
and it's blacked out so i can't change it
i've never chosen nickname over email!
Angry

UniqueAndAmazing · 11/06/2013 17:41

mozilla doesn't know a password for UniqueandAmazing, so i had to type it in.
which annoys me.
