The new Navigation Bar (at t'top): the "official" thread

HelenMumsnet · 05/06/2013 10:21

Hello. There are ruddy millions quite a few threads in Site Stuff at the mo about changes/glitches/weirdy stuff related to the release of our new Navigation Bar (the big blue bar at the top of the page that helps you find all the various bits of Mumsnet).

So, for clarity's (and sanity's) sake, we're starting this thread to keep everything in one place - and have just one thread where you tell us what's not working for you and where we update you on what we've fixed/are fixing etc etc.

Right then...

A couple of quick answers/updates for you right now:

  • The PM Inbox flag/blog/"you've got a PM" icon is now back. Apols for having inadvertently made it disappear.

  • The jumpiness/flickiness of the Nav Bar in general: we're working on sorting this now - and hope to have a fix released by tomorrow.

  • MyMumsnet: this will reappear on the Nav Bar at some point in the next three days or so. In the meantime, you can find MyMumsnet here.

  • Keep me logged in. We're looking into this - and will update you soon.

Any more Qs/probs/moans/peans of praise (hopeful), do please post them here.

Ooh yes, "Hello realname" for My Mumsnet is getting me all affronted too. That's not my name on here! Grin

Thumbwitch · 12/06/2013 14:16

NORTY Helen! Shock

MT is on Chrome, as am I - but my Talk button is in alignment with the rest of the rollover headings.

Lomaamina · 12/06/2013 14:16

I agree with the others about not wishing to be addressed by my RL name. And, at the risk of bringing up a longstanding AIBU. Why address people by the first name? We haven't even been introduced, let alone on first name terms Grin.

HelenMumsnet · 12/06/2013 14:16

@Thumbwitch

ARGH! I agree completely with Nickel/UandA - I do NOT want to be addressed by my RL name on MyMumsnet! I am Thumbwitch and have always been some variation on that since joining here, thanks. I have a whole alterego including email set up as Thumbwitch. THAT'S WHO I AM!!

Please cease and desist with the RL name thingy, asap. Pleaseandthankyou. Thanks

You can change it. Just go into MyMumsnet/My account and find the First Name box.

You can either blank it out (in which case we won't address you as anything) or you can type in what you want.

I'm currently being addressed as "O Wondrous One" - and enjoying it greatly Smile

OP posts:
Thumbwitch · 12/06/2013 14:22

OK, cool - I like the idea of choosing how you address me on here

MrsKwazii · 12/06/2013 14:24

Am off to rename myself 'Your Serene Highness'

mistlethrush · 12/06/2013 14:24

Yes, I'm on chrome (still) and no end of zooming in or out will get Talk in line... Its still better than offers hiding underneath though.

Thumbwitch · 12/06/2013 14:25

Have now renamed myself Mighty and Magical Thumb. I feel it's appropriate. Grin

OK, I'll flag this up again. Tis vexing.

Grin What have I started?

Oooooh and COMPLETELY FORGOT to tell you that there is now a link to Threads I'm On from the Home Page. Hurrah!

It's on the Mumsnet Talk/Discussions of the Day box, at the bottom. You'll see there's a line of three links: one to Active; one to Topics, and one of I'm On.

Feel free to gratitude-bomb me...

OP posts:
Lomaamina · 12/06/2013 14:32

We are duly and humbly grateful oh wonderous one!

Thumbwitch · 12/06/2013 14:33

Thanks Helen - and Wine. Why not - sun's well over the yard-arm here. Grin

"You can change it. Just go into MyMumsnet/My account and find the First Name box.

but that's not he point.
I want my real name to be in my account details, i just don't want a button that says Hello Andrea.

it can't be that hard to erase it, can it?

or, maybe you could have a box that says "real name" and then one that says "preferred salutation/MN name"
because then i can still be Andrea, but be greeted as nickel

SoupDragon · 12/06/2013 15:51

I've been Supreme Commander since the "hello..." first appeared - I have no wish whatsoever for my actual first name to be here at all. It seems unecessary.

BIWI · 12/06/2013 17:20

Blimey, this place is all organ grinders and no monkeys Wink

OliviaMMumsnet · 12/06/2013 18:02

You're not wrong BIWI

ChaosTrulyReigns · 12/06/2013 21:57

What have you done with the search button?

I don;t like the other one, tis tautologous.

Bring It Back.

OliviaMMumsnet · 12/06/2013 22:01

Sing it back.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/06/2013 22:16

ooo have you fiddled about a bit with "fish face" (as someone named her) up there? ^^ she seems to be paying me less annoying visits as I haphzadly move my mouse around... and when did the envelope come back? [blind as well as uncoordinated emotion]

it is much better now.

nenevomito · 12/06/2013 22:37

Look, I've been singing for 15 mins now Olivia and it's still not appeared. Is my laptop faulty?

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 12/06/2013 22:40

ooh sorry I was ignoring you back out for a bit

I'm running Firefox on an iMac.

thumbwitch it does go back to the side if I zoom out but then I can't read the text Grin
I will buy a large magnifying screen overlay

nenevomito · 12/06/2013 22:51

Hi Helen - TIO has gone over Search. Where can I search for posts now? The search function at the top doesn't have the same functionality.

Thanks :)

There's a big purple button called Advanced Search above the Mumsnet Talk/Discussion of the Day box and above the Moon - on every Talk page.

OP posts:
ChaosTrulyReigns · 12/06/2013 22:56

surely if there's an Advanced Search, you need a Simple Search?

I shall request one.

And expect one.
