Women presumably who don't have a certain sense of humour, or don't agree with certain (long standing) posters being described as beige admin workers who nag their ugly husbands, who were friendless at school, wear cheap clothes, have no fun in their sad little joyless lives etc etc Literally paragraphs and paragraphs of nastiness.

This is some of the most vile and misogynistic stuff I have ever read on MN from other women. These kind of comments normally come from trolls and MRA invasions. Is this really what MN has become? Does everyone think that this sort of shit should stand? What happened to the fucking sisterhood?

I am astounded to be quite honest.

goodness

well, I absolutely take on board that some people obviously feel that way, bit I am genuinely at a loss as to why. I dread to say of need examples, but I do. also, I really am interested to understand how and why people feel that,

YellowandGreenandRedandBlue · 30/03/2013 19:43

I have not posted many times, similarly to what Arisbottle says, it just sometimes is intimidating. So yes, I feel slightly less alone having read through this thread. For me, the thought of a row on here is somehow worse than in RL, I find my typing so slow and also so little of my tone gets communicated. I also am much more opinionated in RL than on here.

BIWI · 30/03/2013 19:43

Sorry. Have been watching Dr Who and cooking. Not ignoring you. We're having roasted fillet of beef, asparagus, pureed swede and salad with shallot vinaigrette.

Just in case you were interested.

Aris - it is totally daft!

MadameDefarge · 30/03/2013 19:44

insisting on some kind of orthodoxy of thought that feels utterly silencing. call it po but actually i think its full on bullying.

RustyBear · 30/03/2013 19:45

"But what harm could being sucked into a fake spoon thread possibly have done?" Posted at 17.47.

Having just watched the new Doctor Who, that's actually rather spooky...

Portofino · 30/03/2013 19:45

I have been on a many a thread which has been derailed by a gang of posters. If you complain, you are accused of being humourless. I am no shrinking violet, but i can see why posters would be intimidated by this.

OP posts:
FrankWippery · 30/03/2013 19:45

BIWI you should have said, I'd have made a pudding and everything.

Hullygully · 30/03/2013 19:46

but were you being humorless??

McBalls · 30/03/2013 19:47

Hully, look at porto's op. now imagine it was posted on your thread the other night, while it was in full swing.

Are you honestly saying you don't think it would've been minimised and sniggered at and dismissed as po?

For some it may be about feeling timid - for others though its just being pragmatic and being able to see how something will pan out and thinking, fuck it...it would be too frustratingly pointless to raise my point on this thread at thistime. Yanno?

MadameDefarge · 30/03/2013 19:48

see. i dont mind being ignored.

Hullygully · 30/03/2013 19:48

I dont think there's a way round it, I tend to make jokes on any thread I go on, Porto I remember when you got all cross now. I dont know Joe to reconcile people that like jokes with those thay dont!

YellowandGreenandRedandBlue · 30/03/2013 19:49

I said I would find examples Hully, and I have seen some today, but I didn't post. I didn't post because my expectation is whatever I post will be disagreed with anyway. In some ways that makes me cowardly but also, I don't know how to say it, I don't know who you are, so why should i explain and find examples to convince you? I have to take your POV as you state it. I think you shoud take mine as I state it.

McBalls · 30/03/2013 19:49

Um...Madame - you've been around for bloody years, haven't you??

Hullygully · 30/03/2013 19:49

in that instance no I dont think it would have been!!

scottishmummy · 30/03/2013 19:50

Essentially we all bring different expectation, needs, baggage to how we use, read mn
influencing how we read posts and posters.and from this there will be needle and gripes
no particular solution other than accept we don't all get each other, and it's words on a screen

landofsoapandglory · 30/03/2013 19:50

Who are you to decide if someone is 'humourless' Hully?

Sometimes I think you are humourless, TBH when I am sure you think you are being as funny as fuck, but I don't wade in and call you 'po'!

Stepissue · 30/03/2013 19:51

There have been lots of threads that are derailed by 'larkers' when actually people were having an interesting discussion. I remember one about a year ago, you were one of the main derailers Hully, and when someone politely asked for it not to be derailed they were ripped apart verbally.

It was a thread about this kind of thing actually, about people derailing and the poster that tried to ask the derailers to stop was saying 'LOOK YOU'RE DOING IT NOW, RIGHT THERE ^^^' and everyone just ignored her and told her she was imagining it. Was really weird Confused

Hullygully · 30/03/2013 19:51

dont then yellow! but normally it's easier to get a grasp of a subject with egs to look at, thats all

MadameDefarge · 30/03/2013 19:52

i think if some had posted and said hey you are being a bit mean, i would have agreed and said sorry. or defended myself. but no one has challenged me on anything specific so i can neither defend nor apologise.

nenevomito · 30/03/2013 19:52

Ok Hully, I get it. If you tell someone that they are being humourless, po, whatever, it's because they are and not just because they don't agree with you.

That is what you're saying isn't it?

If its not, apols, but that's how it comes across.
