Hello. We hope you all already feel you can talk to us at MNHQ anytime - either by starting a thread in Site Stuff or by mailing us or reporting a post.

But we also thought it might be useful/interesting to have a live discussion about how how about we do things re moderation etc...

So, we're hosting our very own MNHQ live webchat!

Please do join us at 1pm on Thursday to ask (more or less) anything you want. And, if you can't make then, do feel free to post a nice question here in advance.

MY dazzer?????

MaryZed · 04/10/2012 13:59

Thanks for this.

I just want to chuck in the "support section" idea again - like OTBT, non-googlable, but not deleted after a month.

Could you add it to the list? Ta ever so.

SuperB0F · 04/10/2012 13:59

Helen or Justine, HIDE POSTER? Please?

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:59

@FancyPuffin

Blatherskite Thu 04-Oct-12 13:32:34 I like the idea of keeping Op's messages coloured even if they namechange mid-thread. Would make sockpuppeting impossible.

Very much like this, especially if you don't tell one when you introduce it.

Hmm, I see where you're coming from, but what about if someone legitimately namechanged for personal reasons...

Of course we can tell...

Blatherskite · 04/10/2012 14:00

But of they namechanged for personal reasons, why would they come back on in their other name to offer themselves advice?

Blatherskite · 04/10/2012 14:00

*if

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 14:00

Dazz is much older than I had envisaged (tho he does have whiskey)I had imagined a lithe 17 yr old on a skateboard

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

You can leave him in the loo

FrankWippery · 04/10/2012 14:00

Echo, you know what I'm thinking.

Tee - I honestly thought I wouldn't be back and would be found sobbing in a field somewhere off the A3. But all is good and my terribly important questions have been answered which is splendid Grin

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 14:01

@SuperB0F

Helen or Justine, HIDE POSTER? Please?

Same old answer really - we think there's a danger of mucho confusion - missing posts etc. We are a discussion site that allows differing and unpopular opinions so it just doesn't feel very Mumsnet.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 14:01

@MaryZed

Hi MaryZed, we did post on your thread in Site Stuff, btw. But yes we will look at the OTBT type 2 thing, for sure.

OP posts:
MaryZed · 04/10/2012 14:01

Yes, people shouldn't ever use the two different names on the same thread. That should be a complete no-no, and highlighting the op and their namechanges would stop it.

Blatherskite · 04/10/2012 14:01

and if you do tell everyone that you've introduced it then everyone will know and not post on their own threads to out themselves

And it will still stop the sock puppeteers

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 14:02

@Blatherskite

But of they namechanged for personal reasons, why would they come back on in their other name to offer themselves advice?

no, but say they'd namechanged on another thread - it could out someone unintentionally, IYSWIM?

MaryZed · 04/10/2012 14:02

I saw that Helen, and am still pondering it. But I'm worried that in the general areas it would be derailed and upset everyone.

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 14:02

where's the fun in that?

I love the sockpuppeteers

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 14:02

@Tee2072

That's ace Justine! Did you point that out to him?

"We're mostly mothers...we allow swearing"

I think the irony wasn't lost on the room.

SuperB0F · 04/10/2012 14:03

I sense some wavering on the Hide Poster though- at the coal-face IYSWIM, Justine

EchoBitch · 04/10/2012 14:03

Wine for Frank. Grin

FancyPuffin · 04/10/2012 14:03

What I thought TechDazza looked like

Itsjustafleshwound · 04/10/2012 14:03

Can we have a 'school gate' topic? I would like to call it the 'grow a pr' but it would be so much easier, just to be able to hide it ....

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 14:03

Who would you hide Boffy

SuePurblybilt · 04/10/2012 14:03

Hold up though Mary - what about Zombie threads? I could NC to avoid outage and then be outed by posting on something that's come to life from six months ago. Not sockpuppeting at all to sometimes post on one thread with two names - i must do it all the time with seasonal changes.

FunnysInLaJardin · 04/10/2012 14:03

I see Smokey, but how can I be sure it might be a double bluff/cross type situation

Solo · 04/10/2012 14:04

But what happens if someone nc for a sensitive/embarrassing issue and then forgets to change again? they will be outed and their sensitive issue outed too...

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 04/10/2012 14:04

You could stop sockpuppetting by ops by keeping their name highlighted. But that wouldn't stop sockpuppetting within a thread, by someone who is not the op.
