Hello. We hope you all already feel you can talk to us at MNHQ anytime - either by starting a thread in Site Stuff or by mailing us or reporting a post.

But we also thought it might be useful/interesting to have a live discussion about how how about we do things re moderation etc...

So, we're hosting our very own MNHQ live webchat!

Please do join us at 1pm on Thursday to ask (more or less) anything you want. And, if you can't make then, do feel free to post a nice question here in advance.

I liked YetMoreTech. I used to message him filth, but I had to stop because I knew I'd get drunk one night and go Too Far. Sigh.

FunnysInLaJardin · 04/10/2012 13:46

thats what I'm trying to work out Sue. SmokeyClav asked an intelligent and pertinent question and I have never heard of her before Hmm

StarlightMcKenzie · 04/10/2012 13:46

Why does your logo have a baby peeing in his mum's eye?

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:46

@BigStickBIWI

Good question, Oatie. I've wondered about an MN charity too - especially given many of the charitable initiatives/activities that are spearheaded by individual MNetters.

Yes this is a really good idea and it is something I've really been meaning to look at and try to implement. So I will, honest. Soonish.

I know I'm repeating myself

But why are "in my opinion your post is very bigoted" or "in my opinion you are talking bollocks" or "I think your views would be unacceptable in polite society" type comments being deleted?

That's the difference between now and the old days. It really is. You can't tell someone that their opinions are unacceptable without being deleted.

It's the one thing that loads of us get really cross about.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 13:47

yy to Tee re thanks to MN and absence of swear filter. In fact, I'd like to ask that we can have the opposite. Whenever we get the overly twee use of asterisks - someone posting f*k or sht - can we have a filter that types out the word in full? If you want to swear, swear. Don't do it half-arsedly.

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 13:48

YES

Hear Hear

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 13:48

SuePurblybilt · 04/10/2012 13:48

@Sparklingbrook

Has Mumsnet turned out the way you had envisaged when you founded it?

In a word, no. I actually didn't really look further than a year out and initially I kinda imagined a sort of Which? for parents.

It's actually turned out much better than I imagined Grin

Tee2072 · 04/10/2012 13:49

The other thing I meant to say is that volunteer mods only works in a site of this scale if they have a name for just modding and it is in no way connected with their regular posting name.

So you have to chose your volunteers very very carefully.

I am not volunteering, BTW. I would rather hit myself in the head with a huge stick!

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:50

@MrsKwazii

Please can you change Thanks to Flowers so that literal-minded eejits like myself stop getting it wrong.

And on a serious note, there have been a few threads in recent months from bereaved parents that - after being started in general talk areas, including AIBU - were swiftly transferred to the Bereavement topic, seemingly not always at the request of the OP.

I know that you always have the best interests of the OP in mind, but would you mind reconfirming that automatic reclassification won't happen in future? Often, posters know exactly where they want to post and want more opinions/advice/thoughts that posting in the bereavement topic can garner especially as it seems (from what some posters say) that some people hide that section entirely.

We're on the case about Flowers. We're going to make it so that if you type Thanks, you get Flowers too. But it's not top of Tech's list, I'm afraid.

And yy re moving/not moving Bereavement threads. As we posted at the time, we did get it wrong there. And we make sure now that, if we think someone who is posting about their bereavement may have put their thread in the wrong place, we will mail them first, just to check and to see if they'd like their thread moved. We would never (now) move that kind of thread without contacting the OP first and being sure that that's what she wants.

Boffy, me and Daz really had something. Something good.

And then HE PRETENDED HE HAD LEFT MN

And when I found him, he went into the loo and has never come out. Patrick said.

They shouldn't be, routinely, MaryZed - we will hold internal enquiries.

SuePurblybilt · 04/10/2012 13:51

Hully, you need to post that in Relationships.

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:52

@FrankWippery

Sadly I'll be at the dentist (really truly sadly) so will miss the fun.

Just wondering, like, what the monthly consumption of gin is with you at MNTowers. Also, does the weekend consumption at least quadruple the weekday total?

Who eats the most biscuits and what are your favourite ones?

Pertinent questions I feel. Ta.

My fave is fruit shortcake. But those days are long gone.

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 13:52

I don't think we do delete those posts now, MaryZed.

Attacks on opinions are fine. Personal attacks aren't.

I think the anti swear filter is an awesome idea.

MrsKwazii · 04/10/2012 13:54

Thank you Justine. And for adding Flowers to Tech's 'jobs for when you might have a minute' list - I can imagine that the team aren't exactly twiddling their thumbs.

Tee2072 · 04/10/2012 13:54

One more question: have Tech et al tracked down what's causing the 9 o'clock slow down?
