Deletions - These are ludicrous

Ok, that's enough now MNHQ

Stop it with the mad deleting.

MNHQ, I was wondering if someone reports my post saying 'Hully is a twat' (hypothetical only!), are you then obliged to delete it, even if it's obvious from the context that we're joking around and Hully is not upset by it?

Can imagine this being problematic with all the report-happy Po brigade

BIWItheBold · 30/05/2012 09:50

Here you go, Justine:

Very impressed that Justine hung around until almost midnight fending off quick fire questions.

Very much hoping that's not the end of it though. MN still needs 'fixing'.

JustineMumsnet · 30/05/2012 09:56

@LtEveDallas

No no, absolutely, but that is kind of my point. The rules are too ambiguous, you and I (and obvs Seeker) see the same words, but with different meanings, and therefore different outcomes.

I'm not joking (or being purposely antagonistic), when I say that I absolutely don't see that line as a personal attack. But you do. So for eg OliviaMN might see it my way, and JustineMN your way - and therein lies the confusion.

I think that kind of inconsistency is going to happen every now and then - and tbh has for some time - as no one person can mod the site by themselves. I think around the grey areas/fine lines we just have to accept that.

I don't think you can set a rule for every situation - better to make sure people are modding in the right spirit, as it were (that's where we need perhaps to recalibrate things a bit...).

No, absolutely, we aim to put things in context and not delete light-hearted rudeness.

Hullygully · 30/05/2012 09:58

It's a bit early for that innit - even for me?

LtEveDallas · 30/05/2012 10:00

Oh yes Maryz I agree, one report shouldn't be enough for a deletion, but multiple reports mean that MN reads the thread. God, is that possible?

Never too early for Champagne, darling

mistlethrush · 30/05/2012 10:05

Justine - I hope you had a good night's sleep and come to the issues refreshed - thank you for your time and understanding last night. It would be good to get things back onto a more even keel.

Whilst I might not have strayed into so many threads, I do remember a time when it was really Shock to see a post deleted... it was almost a sightseeing event. Whilst it may never be possible to get back to that level (thanks trolls Hmm) it would be good to move back in that direction.

Blatherskite · 30/05/2012 10:05

Make it a Bucks Fizz BIWI and it's definitely breakfast material :)

FrankWippery · 30/05/2012 10:07

I have a friend who is 82 and she has a glass of champagne every morning to 'kickstart' her day, as she says Grin

But we were only being light heatedly rude on the 'Stop swearing on MN thread'! And the whole thing has been pulled! Sad it's no fun here anymore!

TantrumsAndBalloons · 30/05/2012 10:18

Has the swearing thread gone??

Oh FFS :(

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 30/05/2012 10:20

What, the one with 'arsepartridge' and the like? Shock Sad

How preposterous. It's a gloomy day indeed.

Hullygully · 30/05/2012 10:20
