Well Mumsnet was first launched with the principle that we are all adults and would be treated as thus. We could pretty much say what we wanted back then. That's what made Mumsnet so appealing and so different. You were allowed to express opinions no matter how strong they were and you could use swearwords to back them up.

You could also shout troll and fair enough, some posters got offended by that but most were actually trolls and other posters were warned before they got in too deep. I agree that shouting troll is no longer on as everyone would be at it, but we should be able to state bloody facts!

I got deleted recently for saying I didn't believe someone. That's not troll hunting, I simply accused someone of exaggerating or embellishing or inventing. This is the Internet. People make shit up. Trolling is a bit more than that, isn't it?

not sure Olivia is much of a recourse I'm afraid. She deleted a post of mine for saying "your circs. sound inauthentic - why did you start this thread?". I was 'troll-hunting. Apparently.

What can we do though? We're fucked. We can''t go to NM because of the lolling huns and we can't go to Twitter because we don't get it it wouldn't work.

We may actually have to go and speak to friends and family members instead.

Maybe we need our own topic.

The childish part of me is sorely tempted to start being very rude to people to see what gets zapped and what doesn't.

Deletions used to be rare as rocking horse shit, now any half decent thread is peppered with them and it's a PITA to read. It also makes it harder for me decide who I like and who I don't.

There could be a Cole Porter-inspired section: "Anything Goes".

Now it seems that you can be deleted for not being very nice or expressing doubt.
