Hmm. I should have thought that the correct/courteous thing to do in the event of a post being deleted would be to ping a quick message to the person who has been deleted with an explanation. As a matter of course.

I've been deleted for challenging views demeaning to transgender. How is that any different from racism or homophobia? I'm apparently not allowed to criticise these views. If you're to going to let people post views which attack a minority, you should let people challenge those views. There doesn't seem to be any real logic behind the deletions. Reading the whole thread might help.

I don't report posters as I believe in freedom of speech but I do have a problem with being deleted as I have been reported for not conforming to the majority viewpoint of the thread, especially when sections of society are being denigrated and I'm just trying to give some balance to the thread IMO.

Justine, did you see my earlier post asking whether the deletions regime was being influenced by your marketing strategy?

I wonder whether
a) advertisers are shying away from being associated with a website with prevalent bunfights and
b) MN is trying to appeal to a wider target audience who might be scared by the outspoken nature of the site.

Nope deletions are categorically being driven by a marketing strategy (not sure we have a marketing strategy )
But what is for sure is that we at MNHQ have been uncomfortable for some time about the following issuettes:

The level of aggression in AIBU
The level of trollhunting - and what that means for unfortunate newbies/namechangers who need help and get disbelieved.
The periodic surfacing of aggressive orthodoxies on certain boards - eg the Doghouse a while back.

If there are extra deletions (and we will review the evidence and revert!) then some might be down to the above factors - but again, we will analyse what's occurring and report back.

That is to say my account was banned, not just my post being removed.

yes Mary, that thread was an interesting one - lots and very lots of really unpleasant posts, from regulars, left untouched. I'd decided it was a bit too grown up a topic for some on MN, so left it. HQ appeared to think it was all A Okay.

I'm not sure the list is helping any more. It's just making the thread very long and difficult to read

I had two of mine deleted a couple of days ago as I said the OP had a habit of getting threads deleted if she was unhappy with the outcome of a thread. It was in no way a personal attack, just an observation. Other posters have said this before and they were not deleted. You do appear very trigger happy at the moment. Sorry.
