It's turning into Netmums re:moderation. Its lost it's moral compass in terms of moderation. Deliberate vileness left to stand, the mildest of incredulity goes as troll hunting

I miss the days where you could call a cunt a cunt and no one would cry to MNHQ about it and get you deleted. That was Mumsnet's USP IMO, the fact that it was more like RL, no one hunning and censoring people all over the shop.

I've done that a few times, and you always come back with "it was a personal attack".

For example, the long heated thread about transgender appears to be gone. I was definitely deleted on that for saying "X, your post above makes you sound bigoted", I know that was the wording.

Is that a personal attack? Could I have said "your post is bigoted" or "the opinion you have expressed in your post is bigoted"? How can I say it.

I didn't say "X, you are a fucking bigot get off the thread", I was trying to have a discussion at the time.

We have found the mail that we sent you and you posted

"you are making yourself look very bigoted" and "You really don't sound nice on this thread" if you'd said, say, "I think your opinions are bigoted/not very nice", your posts would have been fine. It is a very fine line and we can be very pedantic about this.

Having said that, there are always exceptions to the 'rule' and context is important. Posting to inflame or goad for example.

Yes it was a joyful thread and I was told I was deleted for troll hunting because I kept asking questions.

I'm sorry but if people are going to post lies for whatever reason most of us aren't stupid and will call them out.

FWIW I am the person who gets sucked in by people all the time, even now I don't ever think people are making up problems for entertainments sake and I'm always amazed when I find out the truth.

I understood tethers post to be that the post was racist, not the poster. After all, that was what she said.

The fact that she said it in a poetic manner means that whoever reported it (and MNHQ evidently) just read 'burning cross' and thought KKK!!! Personal attack!!! Which is spectacular misreading of tethers post IMO.

I have namechanged after numerous support threads and now have ventured out into "big" MN. I don't ever feel like posting atm though for ALL the reasons mentioned above. YY the guidelines are being interpretted differently and wholeheartedly agree that it is unacceptable to leave vile posts up for educational purposes and delete posts challenging it.
It is causing much loved posters to dereg or not post as much and is really destroying the feel of the place. This really needs addressing HQ, you can't just placate us rebels and carry on as normal as we've all reached our limits, esp. where vile trolls are concerned.

There were plenty of twats on this thread, but is that ok as they are (mostly) celebs and therefore valid targets? Genuine question.

Um- well then, you don't understand it.

The poster it was to was arguing that you could call (black) people anything because it was just words. So I used 'just words' to illustrate why she was so horribly, horribly wrong. I used a simile of something notoriously linked with racism in the deep south; ie, words signify things other than their literal meaning.

I am actually a bit sad that everyone on this thread gets that, and MNHQ doesn't, yet can't just say "Oops, sorry, we misunderstood".

I want to Let This Go, I really do- but responses so far have just exacerbated my ire.
