has it always been there? or has it moved? and does that mean if someone 'likes' that thread it will be posted to their fb page?

I really hate FB - I find all that stream of conciousness, teen-speak crap to be very toe-curling. I have recently deleted my account as it made me feel very depressed and would be horrified if someone worked out who I was through a link to FB. Under an old name I have posted some very out-able stuff.

I have facebook, and I have mumsnet, the 2 are used for different types of posts - here I can let off steam, ask a question and generally make an arse a fool of my self, knowing nobody can know me unless I inbox them, on FB I give out innocuous details. MHHQ - TAKE THE LINK AWAY
Also, I can access MN at work, and not FB, so if I made a mistake, I couldn't correct it for up to 12 hrs!!! Help!!

I am also now making my details private - just in case, I have photos of my family and myself on there, I don't want the world to be able to access them so easily , I know you have to be a member, but if someone on facebook wanted to be nosey, it is quick and free to become a member!

If only one good thing comes out of this it will be lots more MNers being rightly paranoid and suspicious about social networking

You could correct it via MN, just re-click the X on the 'like' tab and it will disappear from Facebook too.

I accept I am totally naive but why "only looking" at removing the stupid like button from Forces Sweethearts? People have requested it so why can't it be done? Does MNHQ miss out on something if FS does not have the button and I can't help worrying about security issues with FS posts being all over FB with regard to partners being on active service.

Maybe MNHQ are hoping this thread will fill up and then they can open a new one...MNHQ why are you not coming on thread??

First of all, apologies for...

a) shocking you all with this change

b) not having it working properly from the outset

That's obviously not good and we should have managed it all better.

Having said that (and meaning it), we had no idea it would cause such a rumpus. You see, the same 'like' option has been available for ages in the Viewport bar (the bar that drops down at the top of threads - which you can hide, if you like).

All we've done is replicate the Facebook part of it under the thread title, too.

so the reason people are upset about it is because they think they may click it in error? really? so actually, people want mn to be responsible for their own inability to use a website properly?

It is really simple.

If you don't click the like button, the thread won't appear on your facebook wall, thus it won't identify you to your friends.

so if you don't like it, then don't click it - it's not rocket science.

people post links to threads on mn on their fb/twitter all the time. Did people not know that? Nothing's changed.

We're looking at it because we're not sure we can actually "do" it today - tech-wise. Don't want to say we're going to do something and then not be able to do it straightaway.
