My virus scanner keeps blocking threats from Mumsnet!

Not sure if this is the right place but my virus scanner (AVG) keeps blocking threats when I am on MN. Then it stops me from using the site until I close it & open it up again. The last one was a 'blackhole' something! Not sure what this is...anyone?

I just had a high risk Trojan blocked by Norton too...not happy! I can't relax on here now! MN what's happening?

MumblingRagDoll · 07/09/2011 11:51

I looked at the details of the Trojan and it said it had very few users...does that mean someone could be trying their best to hack MN? I might de reg I think...I hae too much at risk on here...people talk about their kids etc...v dodgy.

Pinot · 07/09/2011 12:08

I just had another one from Mumsnet.

What is going on?

wigglesrock · 07/09/2011 12:10

This has just happened to me again ( 2 mins ago) as I was refreshing threads I'm on - a black hole is on its way again.

farming4 · 07/09/2011 12:13

Hi this has just happened to me too - couple of mins ago when I clicked on "Threads I'm watching"

Any ideas on whats going on? Ta

ThatllDoPig · 07/09/2011 12:15

me too!

MumblingRagDoll · 07/09/2011 12:21

I will keep checking the thread in site stuff as I think they will update there...I just wanted o check it wasnt just me today!

bebejones · 07/09/2011 12:24

I haven't had one since I started this thread, typically! But I've had the blackhole one & a trojan one too. But until it happens again (hoping it doesn't) then I won't know anymore about when it happens!!

I've got avast and it just happened here...trojan or something. Froze the whole system, had to turn it off and lose all my windows.

ellisbell · 07/09/2011 12:32

I don't use AVG. My virus checker is commenting that there are dangerous banners here too. It's happened several times and I've only just got around to looking for somewhere to tell everyone.

Needs some techie expertise quickly

CatherineMumsnet · 07/09/2011 12:55

Hi all, we've flagged this to tech again. We know they've been running tests and we've been in touch with a few of you asking for more information.
Anything you can tell us about the browser you use, or what page you're looking at when warnings come up would be really helpful.

DamianTech · 07/09/2011 13:18

Hi everyone,

We do take these issues very seriously and we hope to get it fixed soon. As Catherine said any information you can give us will help, specifically browser versions and which pages are causing the issue to occur. If you can give a rough description of any ads present (including text ads) on that page that would be useful as well.

The sooner we can track down the root cause of the problem, the sooner we can zap it, so your help is much appreciated!

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 07/09/2011 13:26

I just use Explorer. Ive tried to cut and paste the info when I get an alert, but it wont let me. Ill write it down next time.
I started a thread about this, and there is now another in Chat. "Is MN under attack".

HedleyLamarr · 07/09/2011 13:27

Are these banner advertisements? If so, if you're using Firefox, go to Tools, click Add-ons and download AdblockerPlus. I get no banners, or indeed any ads at all, even on Gmail.

Pinot · 07/09/2011 13:28

IE8
Mumsnet TIO I think I was on
I also tried to c+p but couldn't.

peggyblackett · 07/09/2011 15:31

This happened to me too. Will send you browser versions. Glad its not just me - DH kept accusing me of clicking on ads when I swear I hadn't.

GrownUpNow · 07/09/2011 16:07

Infection Details
URL: best2banners.com/in.cgi?mumsnet
Process: file://C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\A...
Infection: al

Clicking into an AIBU about benefits and moving in with DP from Active. Avast came up straight away.

fargate · 07/09/2011 21:14

Exactly the same message re Trojan and same URL as crumbletastic except no firefox here. Java files infected.

PC running slow, shutting down randomly, outlook express not opening - really irritating. Please fix it ASAP.

ellisbell · 08/09/2011 08:47

still happening - think there should be a large warning from mumsnet somewhere on the talk pages about this. People need to be sure they have good virus protection and that it's up to date.

garlicnutter · 08/09/2011 10:41

I've just removed a threat marked severe. It was Java exploit. I remember clicking on a Persil ad - very nice, too, it opened a slideshow overlay that contained ads for different Persil products. It was the only ad I opened (accidental click!)

Shortly afterwards, a Java update request came up. I should have realised something was wrong, as my machine updates Java automatically. Anyway, the threat appeared between my last full scan on the 5th and this morning. That was the only odd event.

If some other people are getting the same infection from different ads, it suggests the ads are being hosted by an infected server. Either that or they've all been created by the same corrupt developer - the former seems more likely.

orangina · 08/09/2011 10:50

This happened to me a few days ago too. It was definitely something on MN, and I never click on the banners adverts. My anti virus (ESET) just shut it down. I run Firefox. When I re-opened MN, it seemed to be fine....

(will pay more attention next time it happens and attempt to c+p something useful.....)

fargate · 08/09/2011 11:32

I had the same experience with the Persil advert/Java files as garlicnutter. I never open ads - most are blocked anyway - the Persil ad seemed to open itself.

How are you getting on sorting this, Tech??

magentadreamer · 08/09/2011 17:00

I have had various warnings from my virus scanner since Monday, the last one being a couple of minutes ago. They range from trojans, exploit and the latest one was a`backdoor bot. I do feel that MN should have a sticky on chat about this.

mummylin2495 · 08/09/2011 17:11

i have just started another thread in site stuff as i also have just had two more viruses. Also both trojan.I dont understand all the script but have copied what my anti virus said.

mummylin2495 · 08/09/2011 17:16

I think i will just stay off the site until it is fixed.
