mn hq, is it really wise to have topics that are deamed so agressive/scary that most members don't want to post there?

have just read a thread in the doghouse topic, and posts from a few posters saying that they never post there due to the agressive responses there.

Now, I know that hiding a topic could always be an option, but is it really in the spirit of mn to have separate topics that are deamed so unwelcoming/agressive that few posters actually want to post there?

I can of course see the need for certain sections, conception/sn/relationships, but it just seems against everything that mn stands for to let a topic exist that is frequented only by a few individuals while the majority feel that the responses there are agressive enough to warrant not feeling comfortable there.

Why can't we just go back to having a pets topic?

MNHQ have been made aware of the issue before afaik.

That's the thing QueenofFeckingEverything. I have been a member on Mumsnet for so long, I had to check when I joined in my registration. 6 years. I know how MN works. I know and love the way it operates. But this is something different.

Whilst the poster(s) in question are perhaps not breaking the explicit rules of MN (well let's face it, there aren't many), the sentiments and tone are beyond reasonable, IMO. In fact, I think even the feminist threads are less fierce than The doghouse.

YY, I won't be going on S & B again.

The litter tray is a nice place to post and read posts.

YY I saw that thread in the doghouse and felt so sorry for the Op, she got completely roasted for no reason whatsoever! Poor cow.

There are some scary places on MN which I have hidden, maybe should add doghouse to that.

TheOriginalFAB · 29/08/2011 19:24

MaryZ, I wouldn't be mean to you Sad.

I had great advice before, during and after getting my puppy, the people on there were amazing, giving up their time to help me.

I also had good advice on Style and Beauty.

The feminism board is scary, but I'll read it out of interest, but wouldn't dare to post unless I'd done a degree in gender studies...

Yes....I've had people be mean to me in there. I never took it personally nd actually gave it back to them but can only imagine how someone who had just had twins prematurelymigh have felt....there's some weird dog worship thing that gpes on....I LOVE annimals but if you are someone who doesn't believe that ALL dogs are good and it's humans who are bad...then they roast you in there.

S&b is fine. Nothing mean in there at all.Agree doghouse is mostly awful.

PinotsWolefCubs · 29/08/2011 19:31

I do hope people aren't just jumping on the bandwagon to slate the doghouse and it's contributors.

The advice I've seen has been honest and to the point and with the dogs interests in mind. It's not fluffy, no. But it's not the devil incarnate either.

Crikey, what's going down in S&B?

I love it in there, they are wonderful. And very nice to newbies.

I read the title wondering where all the scary stuff was, as I've never come across it.

S&B is fine. There was just one post yesterday that a few people got a bit touchy about but it was only someone being daft.

Never visited the Doghouse and am v surprised to hear that it's that topic that is so scary!

PinotsWolefCubs · 29/08/2011 19:36

There was a jokey thread on S & B about accessories. No problems.
