mn hq, is it really wise to have topics that are deamed so agressive/scary that most members don't want to post there?

have just read a thread in the doghouse topic, and posts from a few posters saying that they never post there due to the agressive responses there.

Now, I know that hiding a topic could always be an option, but is it really in the spirit of mn to have separate topics that are deamed so unwelcoming/agressive that few posters actually want to post there?

I can of course see the need for certain sections, conception/sn/relationships, but it just seems against everything that mn stands for to let a topic exist that is frequented only by a few individuals while the majority feel that the responses there are agressive enough to warrant not feeling comfortable there.

Why can't we just go back to having a pets topic?

A group of posters is (imo) a euphimism for one particular poster in particular. You can choose to be disingenuous about it however.

peggyblackett · 29/08/2011 22:08

Another poster here with rescue dogs (and shock horror - a non-rescue dog) who would rather go it alone than have to post in The Doghouse asking for advice.

The 'advice' given often serves no purpose than to alienate the OP with its aggressive tone. Completely pointless IMO.

DeccaTreuhaft · 29/08/2011 22:09

Sorry that came across as a lot ruder than intended Blush

Oh fuck it I don't want to row, I didn't see the thread you are on about so you may all have a good point, but imo this has turned into a 'ooh yes x is a bich, remember when she said that' kind of shindig.

MmeLindor. · 29/08/2011 22:10

Decca
I am truly not being disingenuous. The only posters I "know" from the dog topic are Valhalla (who was not on the thread today, haven't seen her on doghouse for a while), Bella, and Blondes (of Woofa fame, also not seen her around for a bit, and I keep looking for Woofa updates).

As Mary said, it was not one poster on that thread, but several. All with varying degrees of FFS and angry faces. Going on the very sparce info in the OP.

Blimey. Despite having dogs I rarely go over to the doghouse boards, but as a result of this thread I checked it out, and didn't take long to see the fur flying - it's like being back at school with all the kids in a circle watching the big kid punch seven bells of shit out of the little one.

Makes AIBU come across all 'Bounty' in comparison.

I like the fact that MN is not soft and fluffy, but that stuff on the doghouse boards is pretty nasty.

TheRealMBJ · 29/08/2011 22:23

CWWM Grin at eating your own eyeball!

FWIW, I don't have a dog, and wouldn't get one as I don't feel I have the right situation in which to get one and wouldn't be able to deal with my young child/soon to be children and a dog. But is my dog bit my child and my child was hysterical and fearful I wouldn't think twice about having it put down unless I could find a rescue to take it immediately. Are people seriously suggesting that a child be terrified in it's own home for the benefit of a dog? And other posters are being told to lie about their dog biting?

Unbelievable. Shock

VivaLeBeaver · 29/08/2011 22:24

I think Maryz hits the nail on the head that often there seems to be very little actual advice, just criticism instead. Not constructive criticism either. Funnily enough when I was getting a bashing from many people I also had people PMing me saying that they disagreed with the majority but they didn't feel that they could voice that on the thread as they were worried about people then turning on them. Which is quite sad really. Sad that they felt like that, I did really appreciate their support even if it was secret support.

bibbitybobbityhat · 29/08/2011 22:35

Sorry, I should have said I can't stand the self appointed experts who condemn those who don't share a similar level of experience/interest in their subject.

I do have one or two subjects I can give well informed advice on (if asked - I never go about the boards offering it), and am happy to do so without judging those who are not as well informed as me on those particular topics to scorn, ridicule or hatred.

I'm not sure it's right to 'out' a namechanger or discuss a possible namechanger.

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/08/2011 23:03

I don't have a dog, so have no need to post in or read The Doghouse, but my curiosity was piqued, so I have now read the thread in question.

And - blimey! I can understand how there is a huge amount of anger for the way that disreputable people 'farm' puppies, but it seems that some posters here stoke the fires of that anger and then anyone who is new who comes along gets the full force of their ire.

In fact, it reminded me of the ALF. Animals' rights at all costs, and never mind the human cost.

I'm glad I have no need to ever go there again.

MmeLindor. · 29/08/2011 23:05

You are right, Pinot. I will report my post. Maybe you could do the same, Lougle?
