Not because it brings out the dirty bad sad side of MN.

Not because there are lots of fights.

Not because people use it as an excuse to be foul ("well, this is AIBU - what did you expect sucker?")

Just because it makes us look like a bunch of ignorant cnuts.

Every type of subject under the sun gets posted in AIBU. People have not really grasped the concept/thinking behind it.

So when you get titles like AIBU to ask what is your favourite colour/biscuit/film and other similar general nonsense questions ad infinitum

then

it just makes Mumsnet look like a VERY dumbed-down site indeed.

Thanks.

Yes, yes, yes, this is all v jovial.

But, remember, helenmumsnet, we await the actual thoughts of mnhq on this very subject. By Monday 9am 10am (to enable coffee drinking and biscuit scoffing) at the latest. Thanks so.

Can I say rude things to Usual or will it result in my first ever deletion???

youarekidding · 24/06/2011 23:32

I like AIBU Blush But do agree its got a bit wierded out recently.

Thing I've noticed as a name changer (every few months) is when someone not well known asks a genuine question in the right place no bugger answers.

Why? because they're all throwing buns in AIBU.

So I guess irradicating it may help.

usualsuspect · 24/06/2011 23:33

Can you make a decision a bit later than 10 am please ,I don't get home from work until 4 and my crappy phone takes forever to load MN at work on the sly

TheKidsAreAllWrong · 24/06/2011 23:40

I am a newbie. I found MN through AIBU and I do value having a space where people can be bluntly honest because it's anonymous and where you'll have the benefit of a diverse and disinterested views. But it does often seem to slip into bullying and self-referential indulgence.

Other forums, can be relied upon in general to be more polite and supportive but can often be full of platitudes and empty reassurances "Oh i do that too, don't worry" "Oh OP, sorry to hear that". So actually a bit dumbed down too in their way, iyswim.

I suppose I've been viewing it a bit like it is in RL: if you are feeling like you just want someone to give you a hug and say you're ok, you know which friends to go to; if you want someone to tell you honestly if you've been a bit of a twat and need to apologise, you have other friends you'd call; and if you want some starightforward advice or information, you'd probably have go-to folks for that.

ronshar · 25/06/2011 00:02

I said sorry really nicely.
Honest missus I am very sorry.

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 25/06/2011 00:07

Nah, if it has a ringtone it should be sampled from Leader Of The Pack and go 'Oh no, oh no, oh nonononono!' with the sound of a revving, crashing motorbike underneath...

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 25/06/2011 00:08

Oh fucking hell, Shangri-Las epic fail there. I was confusing LOTP with Remember Walking In The Sand.

ronshar · 25/06/2011 00:11

If I report myself will I get a tshirt? What will happen?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 25/06/2011 00:16

She didn't come back and clarify the vibro situation did she?

[rumbled]

ronshar · 25/06/2011 00:20

Do you think it is attached to a big vibro thingy. Just to keep them all entertained at 3am? A nice comfy chair, big vibro under the seat.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 25/06/2011 00:28

Naah, I reckon they're allowed to sleep.

Although that Justine rods with an iron rule, so maybe not? Confused

So, there's a laptop by the side of the bed, which is placed on top of, (did you watch that episode of Dragons' Den?) a plate that rocks back and forth, but in an evil genius twist this plate is set to rock the Biscuiteers awake, when someone shouts "I'm telling of you" on a thread so they can leap out of bed (my eyes) to hit the big red button.

JustineMumsnet · 25/06/2011 00:34

No

JustineMumsnet · 25/06/2011 00:35

You just need to post more history in AIBU. Job done.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 25/06/2011 00:37

That does not even make snese.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 25/06/2011 00:37
Grin
JustineMumsnet · 25/06/2011 01:01

Or maybe more philosophy? or art? Or philosophy of art?

Am I being unreasonable to think that the aesthetic realists were barking up the wrong tree? type of thing...

BitOfFun · 25/06/2011 01:03

Arse for arse's sake. That's as good as it gets round here on a Friday night.

muminthecity · 25/06/2011 01:12

If AIBU goes, won't all the trolls and thickos just start posting all over the other boards, making the whole place look like it's full of idiots? Confused
Much better to keep them all contained in one section, surely?

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 25/06/2011 01:23

We haven't had a really good clever troll for ages. Anyone remember the wine-at-the-wedding AIBU? Breathtaking class, that.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 25/06/2011 01:30

It's pinging a memery for me - tell me more.

garlicnutter · 25/06/2011 01:47

I've posted some philosophy and science in AIBU. Hope that helps Wink

I like it. But I thought it already had a 90-day shelf life (shows how much attention I pay). So - another vote for accelerated ageing on AIBU threads.

madhattershouse · 25/06/2011 01:50

I love AIBU...makes this site different to the awful sites where you are not allowed to say what you mean. If you don't like it, hide it or ignore it..please don't remove it. It's a bit of fun in these hard days!
