Not because it brings out the dirty bad sad side of MN.

Not because there are lots of fights.

Not because people use it as an excuse to be foul ("well, this is AIBU - what did you expect sucker?")

Just because it makes us look like a bunch of ignorant cnuts.

Every type of subject under the sun gets posted in AIBU. People have not really grasped the concept/thinking behind it.

So when you get titles like AIBU to ask what is your favourite colour/biscuit/film and other similar general nonsense questions ad infinitum

then

it just makes Mumsnet look like a VERY dumbed-down site indeed.

Thanks.

:) I doubt they would have the bottle to do it in real life ronshar, I generally like people who speak their mind, common sense and are down to earth but telling people to FO etc and calling people trolls because they don't like what they hear is just very childish and lame.

ronshar · 24/06/2011 21:32

I agree Ivor. Grin

AllTheYoungDoods · 24/06/2011 21:32

Arf at 'carpark for the insane'!

Ivortheengine8 · 24/06/2011 21:33

....and yes I have been called a troll on a thread and know how it feels. They should have a label on it 'not recommended in pregnancy' at least!

Ivortheengine8 · 24/06/2011 21:36

Ronshar, I really do feel for some people on there who are clearly feeling vulnerable too and they just get attacked. I can't believe how bitchy it can be at times. :( Sorry about your mc

bothsidesnow · 24/06/2011 21:37

"Not recommended if you have vulnerable dependents" IMVHO.

ronshar · 24/06/2011 21:38

Thank you Ivor but it was a lifetime and and a small monster ago.
I was relatively new and dint realise that abortion wa snot a subject to enter without a hard hat and a "dont upset the SN" posters. I now know and dont contribute.

hocuspontas · 24/06/2011 21:40

Dumbledore's girl - the 'YABU' was supposed to be funny. I obviously failed miserably... Grin

hocuspontas · 24/06/2011 21:41

Sorry Dumbledoresgirl not Dumbledore's girl.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 24/06/2011 21:41

Sorry to go against the grain, but I really like "AIBU" Blush

I know some people see it as a chance to get nasty, but I can honestly say I have never been nasty, or told anyone to "F off", either on AIBU or elsewhere. If it goes, I wonder if the nastiness will just spread into other sections? in other words, I don't think the four letters A.I.B.U are what make people nasty- some people are just nasty!

I like debate, and I like to hear other people's (often strong!) opinions. I don't do nasty, and I have survived several AIBU postings. In actual fact, the only time I was reduced to tears by a horrible post from another poster was on another, fluffier site, on a parenting topic. If people want to be horrible, they will. At least in AIBU you are braced for it!

So I will be a lone voice, and vote to keep it. it would feel like something missing to me.

Ivortheengine8 · 24/06/2011 21:44

JUMP ON JOOLY. SHE DISAGREES WITH US. YOU BAD PERSON! GET OUT!

Its the fact that everything gets posted in AIBU that annoys me

I feel like moving all the threads to the right places

BoysAreLikeDogs · 24/06/2011 21:46

yy, usual

kind of like weeding the filing in-tray

Dumbledoresgirl · 24/06/2011 21:49

No, I did get that hocuspontas, and I really do genuinely apologise if you feel I was getting at you. I didn't mean to, and I did realise you were being humorous, but there are others who aren't but who still use the phrase in threads that don't call for it.

I have just ventured into "last 15 minutes" to see what sort of thing is being covered in AIBU and I can see what other posters are talking about now in terms of inappropriate questions being asked. Obviously some people found MN via AIBU and have failed to realise there are other topics out there.

Tee2072 · 24/06/2011 21:52

The problem is if you get rid of it then those posts will seep all over MN even more than they do now.

At least with it there you can point people to it!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 24/06/2011 21:52

I know what you mean but there's no point. People are so used to having it that those threads would pop up somewhere else. How many times have you seen a thread in chat where the op has to remind people that she didn't actually post in AIBU. We can't help ourselves now. You can't put the genie back in the lamp much as we might want to.

stainesmassif · 24/06/2011 21:52

God, yes, please get rid, for all the reasons everyone else said.

I can see that at some point in the distant past AIBU was a useful board for finding out if posters were actually being unreasonable, but those days seem long gone.

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 24/06/2011 21:54
bothsidesnow · 24/06/2011 21:54

I don't agree that the same posters would then infect the rest of MN. I think they'd be bored if they couldn't get their sadistic kicks so easily, and move on to another site. And that would be fantastic.

bibbitybobbityhat · 24/06/2011 21:58

I don't agree that the genie can't be put back in to the lamp.

Hopefully Mumsnet will be around for years to come, long after the current incumbents have left.

Lots of us have experienced how quickly the "feel" of a forum can change.

Cod has only been gone a couple of years but there are a lot of new posters who don't know who she was.

Same could happen with aibu, or any other convention on MN.

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityhat · 24/06/2011 22:01

Just to clarify, when I said "current incumbents" I meant current posters, not you lot who do it for an actual living at mnhq Grin.

OP posts:
bothsidesnow · 24/06/2011 22:01

Actually, now that SGB is here, why doesn't mn set up a sister site for sadists? Women who like to get beaten up by other women could voluntarily go over the the other side for a good kicking.

BecauseImWorthIt · 24/06/2011 22:06

I think we should also have a sticky for 'who is Cod?'

ronshar · 24/06/2011 22:09

I miss how it was. Sniff.
But then there are lots of newer poster who are bluddy marvelous. So you cant have it all I guess.

bibbitybobbityhat · 24/06/2011 22:09

Aye. And "who were the moulides (sic)".
