Not because it brings out the dirty bad sad side of MN.

Not because there are lots of fights.

Not because people use it as an excuse to be foul ("well, this is AIBU - what did you expect sucker?")

Just because it makes us look like a bunch of ignorant cnuts.

Every type of subject under the sun gets posted in AIBU. People have not really grasped the concept/thinking behind it.

So when you get titles like AIBU to ask what is your favourite colour/biscuit/film and other similar general nonsense questions ad infinitum

then

it just makes Mumsnet look like a VERY dumbed-down site indeed.

I agree with others who say the attitude spreads through the other topics. I have abandoned three threads this week as a poster has come on and basically asked "what's the fucking point of this thread?" and then get annoyed when no one responds to them.

I liked AIBU when it was a mix of ops who genuinely wanted opinion and those ops that were just plain daft.

Don't get rid of AIBU. Set up another topic called 'Can I ask a question, please'. Any thread reported as being not a proper AIBU would be moved there by MNHQ.

While I agree that many people now post silly things on AIBU, some people do simply want to know what other people think, and those are still good threads, with lots of interesting pov's.

Look,this is just what happens when a site gets big. New posters come in, some of them are great fun, some of them are whiners, some of them are maniacs, but they don't know everyone's back story and there is no reason why they should know that [poster] has a tragic experience in the past and [otherposter] is a self-obsessed professional victim and [yetanotherposter] loverly and fluffy until it feels itself slighted. So squawkfests ensue, and then die down, and then everyone moves on until the next ruck occurs. And AIBU is nothing compared to the self-righteous malice and screaming that pops up across the board when certain contentious topics pop up yet again.

I've never really noticed a huge difference between AIBU and the rest; but I'm seeing so much on MN now that is just stupid and crass that I think I will experiment with hiding AIBU, just in case it reveals a nicer forum that I don't feel embarrassed to post on.
