Hello,
I just discovered that Baylis and Harding Handwash (Mandarin and Grapefruit) smells EXACTLY like Molton and Brown and is a fraction of the price (£1.93 for 500ml in Sainsbury's compared to £14 for 300ml Molton Brown).

Having already shared in Chat - I just thought starting a thread in Products where we could list all the things we discovered that are just as fab (and cheaper) than the posh versions and save us money.

(If this thread takes off Thandeka thinks definitive proof that Mumsnet is firmly middle class and not upper middle class/upperclass as per other debate!) If it doesn't- then it's just me the happy cheapskate.

the aldi cream does smell odd though.
I reccy witch hazel instead of any make up primer or beauty flash balm

KingRolo · 27/07/2009 13:07

Sainsbury's value humous is very good and only 70p or something.

poopscoop · 27/07/2009 13:14

i thought the aldi cream smelt fine. Just looked at the pot. Mine says Skin Kind, nourishing, anti wrinkle night cream Q10. Not sure if that is the same one. This reminds me of the Ponds face creams that our mums used!

moocowmrs · 27/07/2009 13:24

Only problem with the humous is that the pot does not re seal which means recovering it with cling every time but that said it does taste just fine.

Another one who loves the Tesco value tortilla chips!

Also stopped trying all the expensive moisturisers after many many years... finally fell in love with E45 cream... using it day & night.

You have to put "Bnatural" into Tescho's search thing to actually see these products. For some reason it doesnt come up by going through content lists.

Another good one is Superdrug Vitamin E body scrub, absolutely the best body scrub available.

Here, only £2.63!!

MrsMcCluskey · 27/07/2009 19:49

Aldi do an under eye concealer as good as Touche eclat for about £3

cheekysealion · 27/07/2009 19:49

superdrug vitamin E face oil - £2.00
best night thing for face

HerHonesty · 27/07/2009 20:16

disagree with babydan, doesnt convert to chair as well.

cheap olives in vinegar brine stuff, drain, cover with olive oil, chilli, rosemary whatever then you have posh olives.

sumpermarket "value" smoked salmon trimmings. brilliant in pasta sauce with creams

sainsburys own brand cornflakes are made by kellogs.... and half the price.

swineofthetimes · 27/07/2009 20:37

Bourjois eyeshadow is made in the same factory as Chanel.

lambanana · 27/07/2009 20:40

I agree with loads of these especially the Aldi concealer. The Bayliss & Harding handwash is available in home and bargain. And tesco must be getting on to the tortilla chips because they have gone up to 25p!!!!!!

LuluMaman · 27/07/2009 20:46

baby oil to remove eye make up is as good, if not better than any brand i have ever used, including Lancome, No 7, Cliniuqe etc

It takes off waterproof mascara too

I have been using it for 10 years + and i also have barely any lines around my eyes

According to my friend who used to work for Kelloggs and handled all the Kelloggs/Sainsbury's supply, none of the own brand cereals are Kelloggs'. They only supply their own cereal with their brand name. Some of the other cereal complanies do, but not kelloggs.

Aldi do a £5.99 anti wrinkle serum that is supposed to be amazing but I've not managed to get my hands on any yet.

bibbitybobbityhat · 27/07/2009 21:06

Neutrogena Ultimate Moisture Day Cream SPF15 is fantastic proper moisturiser and only about £7 in Superdrug.

TwoJobsOneManOneBump · 27/07/2009 21:11

I bought the Mothercare own brand car seat because we found (while in the shop, while the assistant protested that its clicky slot things weren't meant to fit anything) that it fits the Quinny chassis, which I am now planning to buy second hand.

cheesesarnie · 27/07/2009 21:12

im usually very snobby but recently needed new foundation but didnt have much money so tried an avon one(its in a compact, liquid to powder or whatever) and its ALOT like dior compact!

janeite · 27/07/2009 21:14

Sainsbo's cornflakes go soggy much more quickly imho (they were the organic ones though so don't know if that made a difference).

Waitrose own brand eye makeup remover is v good and only about a pound.

Boots Time Delay stuff is v good and often really cheap with a voucher.

AitchTwoOh · 27/07/2009 21:19

lidl's Formil washing powder is great, does the job, doesn't bring anyone out in a rash (unlike ariel) and isn't overly perfumed. plus you only need one tab in soft water, giving us 36 washes for something ridiculous like £2.25.

frimblypoo · 27/07/2009 21:21

Highly rate Tesco 'weetabix' and their 'special flakes' (spec k)even though it makes me think of dandruff

higgle · 27/07/2009 21:39

The Baylis and Harding handwash is £1 in Tesco at the moment.
