Hello,
I just discovered that Baylis and Harding Handwash (Mandarin and Grapefruit) smells EXACTLY like Molton and Brown and is a fraction of the price (£1.93 for 500ml in Sainsbury's compared to £14 for 300ml Molton Brown).

Having already shared in Chat - I just thought starting a thread in Products where we could list all the things we discovered that are just as fab (and cheaper) than the posh versions and save us money.

(If this thread takes off Thandeka thinks definitive proof that Mumsnet is firmly middle class and not upper middle class/upperclass as per other debate!) If it doesn't- then it's just me the happy cheapskate.

Yay Thandeka started a thread that took off!

oooh cheapskate tip for you- got lots of lipsticks all at the bottom of the tube/ gone off the colour? Melt them all together and make fab new shades- lots of fun experimenting- put it in an empty lipsalve pot and use a lipbrush to apply.

HAve to disagree about their 'Austins ' though not a patch on Pimms imo!!

monkeypinkmonkey · 28/07/2009 20:30

M&S make up range the same as clairns apparently thats what everyone said when I worked there.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 28/07/2009 20:34

Haven't read the whole thread, but you can throw all your cleansers out and do this instead: www.theoilcleansingnethod.com; feels like you've had a facial the next morning.
Also Aqueous Cream(about £1.50 for a huge tub) is, imo, the best moisturizer, as well as being a wash-off cleanser.

scottishmummy · 28/07/2009 20:36

i have been using aqueous cream as body wash for years.works a wee treat

scottishmummy · 28/07/2009 20:38

Cut and come again salad leaves are brilliant in a pot in your garden. £1 for a packet from B&Q or similar, plus another £1 for a pot. You will have leaves all summer long, get a couple of packets and you can have a swank mixed leaf salad.
Tesco value cotton pads are exactly the same as any other more expensive brands. Also I have heard that BHS home wares are made by the same people who do habitat interiors.

Next pink perfume in square bottle = Ralph Lauren Romance

onepieceoflollipop · 28/07/2009 21:36

Oh I love Next Pink - had no idea it was like Romance.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 28/07/2009 22:54

Ah yes oil cleansing nethod gets you nowhere. But the method is lovely.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 28/07/2009 23:10

I'm well past that stage now but I'm assuming everyone knows about using baby wipes to clean off baby sick, in fact worth trying for any stain, thus saving unnecessary washing.

blowbroth · 29/07/2009 07:32

This face scrub is great! Iuse it 2/3 times a week and it does a great job.

MilaMae · 29/07/2009 08:29

The affordable organic kids wash, bubble bath, body lotion that Asda sells(has an elephant or something in the bath)are the extortionate Earth Friendly Kids products. They are made in the same factory and have the same ingredients so that's my deduction anyway I happened to have both on the side of the bath as I was having a bath. The bottles are exactly the same which is what led me to compare the two.

Fab thread

I have very sensitive eczema prone skin and have used the Boots No7 tinted moisturiser as foundation for ages but I have recently had to replace my make up and as I was skint I tried Boots Natural collection, everything is under £2 and 3 for £5. I bought a tinted moisturiser, loose powder and lip liner for a fiver and also got a concealer for £1.75 all of them are fab!

If anyone likes shortbread Walkers Shortbread make Lidl's, M&S and Asda's own brands.

New Pampers Simply Dry are the only nappies that do not bring DS out in a huge rash other than Baby Dry but much cheaper. Tesco have them £3.50 for 22 size 5 nappies atm, Asda/Tesco FF wipes ar also great!

jennymac · 29/07/2009 10:28

Always buy the Sainsbury's own brand weetabix and can't tell the difference - same with the bran flakes. If only they did a shredded wheat...

janeite · 29/07/2009 12:41

The Boots Natural Collection blusher is really good - I like it just as much as Benefit.

Rumpel · 30/07/2009 13:56

I went into Pundland yesterday to check out what some of you guys had said Yep looks like the Pure stuff is boots botanics with a new lable stuck over the botanics label Do you think it stuff that hasn't been deemed 'perfect' or just the factory making more money?

They sold flushable Peppa Pig wipes too - I shall be buying them from now on. Much cheaper than supermarkets own brand flushables. Bought DS 12 disposable baby bibs (for 3 night hol next week) for £1 too. Also pens etc for kids much cheaper.

If you use tinctures/herbs etc try here:

Scottish herbal college - make their own much cheaper to buy and much more powerful.

Also

www.worldwideshoppingmall.co.uk

is great for all sorts and free p&p.

Just thought I would resurrect this thread from last year.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 30/06/2010 09:07

Or maybe I won't?

TrillianAstra · 30/06/2010 09:11

Good thread. I sadly don't have anything to add, not because I don't use cheap stuff but because I don't know what the posh stuff is like to compare.

TrillianAstra · 30/06/2010 09:12

That sounds a bit 'woe is me' doesn't it? I'm just a cheapskate, hanging around for tips from cleverer people.
