Hello,
I just discovered that Baylis and Harding Handwash (Mandarin and Grapefruit) smells EXACTLY like Molton and Brown and is a fraction of the price (£1.93 for 500ml in Sainsbury's compared to £14 for 300ml Molton Brown).

Having already shared in Chat - I just thought starting a thread in Products where we could list all the things we discovered that are just as fab (and cheaper) than the posh versions and save us money.

(If this thread takes off Thandeka thinks definitive proof that Mumsnet is firmly middle class and not upper middle class/upperclass as per other debate!) If it doesn't- then it's just me the happy cheapskate.

i tired the aldi creams, cleanser and night cream after reading recommendations on mn, unfortunately they didn't seem to agree with my skin, i went very spotty

onepieceoflollipop · 27/07/2009 21:45

Aldi washing powder is fine imo. (I think someone on here, possibly expat recommended it ages ago). Less perfumed than the big names, but is great at actual cleaning.

Paolosgirl · 27/07/2009 21:46

Very boring, but the Tesco and Asda value dishwasher tabs clean really well - as does a spoonful of bicarb. of soda.

mummypig · 27/07/2009 21:47

Well, I have downgraded from Eve Lom cleanser to olive oil with a bit of chammomile essential oil in it and I am very happy . Not as solid but once you've got used to oil-based cleansing in the first place it doesn't really matter.

I also use vinegar, or a mixture of vinegar, washing up liquid and water, to clean most things about the house.

AitchTwoOh · 27/07/2009 21:49

lol onepiece, i tried the lidl tabs on expat's recommendation. one of us has got mixed up...

JohnnyTwoHats · 27/07/2009 21:49

Aldi dishwasher tablets
Aldi version of Pimms (think is called Austins?)

onepieceoflollipop · 27/07/2009 21:51

Well maybe she alternates Aitch?

If she gets a sniff of laundry being mentioned on a thread she'll be along on here shortly to put us straight.

AitchTwoOh · 27/07/2009 21:52

you're right...

lilymolly · 27/07/2009 21:52

Collection 2000 do a fantastic version of benefits benetint ( red food colouring in a bottle used as a blusher )

Benetint £25
Collection 2000 version about £3

And it works just as well, if not better than the expensive one!

onepieceoflollipop · 27/07/2009 21:53

She's probably busy loading her machine while we chatter on.

janeite · 27/07/2009 21:54

Lily - where's Collection 2000 from please?

Shell001 · 27/07/2009 21:54

Sainsburys Basic Foil - its great and 36p i think and lasts some time ..
Says not for oven but i use it fine ?
I think foil is so much ... for what it is .. in the bin after one use

Tidey · 27/07/2009 21:57

Aldi is great for feta, olive oil, dishwasher tablets and their version of Baileys, which I put in chocolate trifle and is about a quarter of the price of proper stuff.

Paolosgirl · 27/07/2009 21:57

Collection 2000 is from Asda - say it loud and say it proud!

lilymolly · 27/07/2009 21:57

collection 2000

benetint

Paolosgirl · 27/07/2009 21:58

I take it back - is Collection 2000 available from other shops then?

lilymolly · 27/07/2009 21:58

JANEITE Get it from superdrug I think

GlastonburyGoddess · 27/07/2009 21:58

morrisons and sainsburys own versions of kelloggs "just right" taste exactly the same and bit cheaper too, also sainsburys special k, just as nice as kelloggs.
tried basics rice crispies the other day DONT DO IT!! horrid horrid horrid, live and learn!

lidls meat balls-sooo much nicer than cambells they are amazing and only 39p(i think) a tin
lidls salmon en croute(salmon in pastry) is amazing, 1.99 a box of two, although on offer a lot for £1! supermarket equivilants usually about £2-3.99
lidls dishwaher tabs £1.79, clean dishes as well/better than finish etc.

lilymolly · 27/07/2009 21:59

Oh I do love to be helpful!!

expatinscotland · 27/07/2009 22:01

Lidl's Formil laundry liquid (non-bio) and bio powders.

Excellent.

The non-bio liquid is concentrated so a little goes a loooonng way.

The smell is long-lasting but subtle.

Toss in a couple of scoops of washing soda crystals for extra-soiled loads.

janeite · 27/07/2009 22:01

Why, you lovely, helpful lady. Thank you!

AitchTwoOh · 27/07/2009 22:01

LIDL! aha! eat THAT, onepiece!

AitchTwoOh · 27/07/2009 22:03

expat did you see what i said about the tabs? if you look at the side of the pack, the instructions are clear, one tab only per soft water wash.

onepieceoflollipop · 27/07/2009 22:03

Hah! one-nil to Aitch.

Do you use the soda crystals though? I do , and that was definitely on expat's advice. bonus point to onepiece.

expat have you ever used the Aldi version?

expatinscotland · 27/07/2009 22:03

it's really good stuff. ds and dd1 have sensitive skin and do fine on this.

don't fork out on expensive pre-wash sprays for stains. just rub the stain with a bar of Fairy soap (the green one) and throw in a bit of washing soda crystals.
